"Adam as in Adam and Eve?"

"Adam as in the first male?" Jack inquired, adding on to my question.

The raven-head's smile remained fixed, though dimmed slightly, a flash of something flickering and uncertain lying within his brown-orbs.

"Yes, though it's not so much as Adam and Eve as just Adam... and Adam... as of late."

"You're gay?" Jack presumed. Yes, Jack. That's definitely the question we should be asking him right now.

Adam chuckled, the sound echoing through the air, prior to shaking his head, an amused smirk resting over his thin lips. He then raked a hand through his black hair, his eyes narrowing at Jack, peering at him, curiously.

"No. Are you?" He redirected the question.

Jack's eyes widened, shocked that his question had slapped him back in the face, and he was stunned, unable to respond. He didn't have to, however, for Katherine was quick to interject.

"Okay, Adam. Enough with the humor. Why did you throw us into this loop?"

Adam seemed taken back by the question, his posture changing from his once light-hearted and giddy aura to a perplexed and offended one.

"I didn't," Adam vocalized.

I felt my heart dropping in my chest at his declination. If he didn't, then who did? What had caused this?

"Adam..." Katherine's brows connected, her eyes gleaming with a searing frustration.

I wrapped my arms around Katherine, tightening the embrace, an attempt to lessen her anger. After all, Adam didn't seem like the type of guy to harm us, and getting angry with him wouldn't make matters better.

Katherine's posture visibly eased a bit, and the arm that she had around my waist pulled me closer, her hand sliding up and down my side.

"Adam... if you aren't responsible, then who is? And, why were you following us and sending creepy notes?" True, he still had some explaining to do.

Adam let out a sigh, his eyes dampening.

"You thought my notes were creepy?" His tone softened, sounding hurt. It was hard to be angry at him, especially when looking into such earnest eyes. "I wrote them with love and admiration for the both of you." His smile had returned, almost with the same glow as before. "I was not happy with the fact that you guys were stolen of your happy endings, and I decided to write them for you."

"Write them..?" I spoke up, still nuzzled into Katherine's torso, feeling her warmth, veiling over me- protecting me.

Adam's lips parted and wavered for a moment, his hand hovering over his lips, seemingly regretful for having said so much.

He soon nodded his head. "Yes, well... you see..." He scratched his head, his gaze darting away, focusing somewhere over the horizons.

The darkness seemed to wallow us all within it, though a single light lit a portion of the grass, illuminating from beside the school building.

"I wasn't supposed to intervene with your story, but Eve... she wrote your story where you two would never find your happy ending. As soon as you would get the closest to your happiness with one another, you would be wickedly torn apart, again and again." He sighed. "But, Eve has been more distant lately and less cooped up in her library, so I snuck in and stole your book, rewriting your story so you wouldn't have the terrible ending," he explained.

I didn't know what to make of all of this. I felt a confliction of different emotions running through me, and, unconsciously, my hands curled into Katherine's shirt, and I breathed in her scent, the feeling of missing her rushing through me, though she was right there before me, literally wrapped around me. But, her grip over me had visibly stiffened.
