Chapter 36

Recap:
My eyes softened. 'That's why he missed our vital points. Gah! Kumi-chan, stop feeling bad for the enemy!' I mentally scolded myself. I pointed sharply at him. "You! Stop making people feel bad for you! This is probably how you killed them all! So hush!" I glared at him, sniffling a little.

"..........." Haku didn't know how to reply to that, and Sasuke and Naruto facepalmed.

Chapter 36

Kumiko's P.O.V.

"But......If you even think you can kill these two, well...." I closed my eyes for a moment, pushing down my emotions to the bottom of my heart. "Over my dead body!" I snapped, glaring at him, my Sharingan red eyes glinting in the light.
"So you won't give up quietly." Haku replied softly, pulling out more senbon needles. "Then I have no choice but to eliminate you three."
'I have a bad feeling about this.' I bit my lip in worry.
"I'll do this quickly, so you don't have to suffer anymore." Haku decides. The senbon needles flew from his hands at least three times as fast as before.
'No!' I widened my eyes and quickly pushed them both to the ground and covered them as best I can. But in doing so....
Heh, you got me good this time, Haku." I spoke softly, feeling the pain of all the needles stuck into me. I coughed up something wet and sticky onto my gloved hand. I stared at the crimson red blood through a haze. 'Damn. I guess he hit some of my organs too. My skills as a medic isn't going to heal these injuries.
"Kumi-chan!" Naruto shouted worriedly at the same time Sasuke did.
"Why....Why did you do that for?" Naruto yelled at me, and supported my shoulders as I stumbled and fell to my knees.
"Heh....I did say over my dead body." I smiled as the thin black fabric holding my mask to my head finally snapped after all the senbon attacks to it. "I probably look like a porcupine. That was the last major attack Haku could use, he doesn't have much chakra left." I gave Naruto and Sasuke a sad smile as my mask hit the ground with a thud.
"Naru-kun.....Don't ever lose your cheerfulness and determination, got it? And Sasu-kun.... I'm sorry, but it seems like I'll be leaving early; I can't fight..... Itachi with you." I whispered, feeling my energy slowly leave my body.
Naruto shook my shoulders, tears streaming down his face. "S-Stop saying things like that! You're going to be okay!"
"Kumi-chan....I...I...." Sasuke whispered.
I forced myself to stay awake, and I lifted up my heavy trembling arms to ruffle both of their hair on their heads. "Even now, I'm slipping. I'm not good with goodbyes, but....Goodbye, guys." I say softly, before slumping forwards onto both of them. The world went black for me, but not before I heard the Juubi's chuckle.

Sasuke's P.O.V.
"Goodbye, guys." Kumiko whispered softly before falling forwards into Naruto and I.
"Kumi-chan....Kumi-chan! Wake up! This is a joke, right?" Naruto's voice bordered on hysteria as he gripped her shoulders and shook her.
"Naruto...Stop it." I hear myself say quietly. "She's....She's gone." I hung my head as I felt the hot sting of tears behind my eyes and a wave of grief overcame me. Damn it! If I trained more, she wouldn't have died! We would've already defeated Zabuza and Haku, and going back home!
"Stop it?! Stop it?! How can I stop when Kumi-chan's dead?!" He laid her down with an uncharacteristic carefulness and gentleness, before whipping his head around and glaring at me with demonic-like slitted red eyes with tears in the corners and dripping down his face. He grabbed the front of my shirt with his hand, and I looked back at him with dull eyes, blinking as my tears started their journey down my face.
'Kumi-chan....I....I love you.'

Kumiko's P.O.V.
I open my eyes, and don't see the difference between the darkness behind my eyelids and wherever I was. This place was... "Pitch black." I breathed out.

"Where am I?" I questioned myself.

"Duh, in the afterworld, kit." I hear the Juubi say. I could see her and myself perfectly fine, but I couldn't see anything else.

"J-Juubi-san? Why are you here?" I blurted out, staring at the blue and black cat that reached my waist, if I was standing up. "And why are you so....so small?"

She huffed. "Would you like me to turn huge and crush you? Because I'll do that if you want me to."

"N-No, I'm fine." I sweatdrop. "Why are you here?"

"First things first. Stop lying in mid-air like there's a bed there, kit." She sighed as I opened my mouth to ask how. "Just picture yourself standing on two feet, and you will. There is no ground though, so we're kinda floating in air."

"Uhh..." Was my intelligent reply. "What the heck?" I did as I was told, and nearly fell over again as I kind of stood up. On air. Or something. "It's like....I'm in space or something."

"Nope." Juubi shook her head. "You're in the afterlife, kit." She gave a sly smirk. "And you're dead."
