"Good morning, everyone," Captain Kim said at the usual morning briefing. "I have some bad news this morning."
Everyone looked at each other while raising an eyebrow, wondering what the bad news was going to be.
"Is everything alright, Captain?" Jungkook asked. As a sergeant, he had more room to ask questions to the captain.
"Yeah, everything's fine. It's not something to worry about," Captain Kim said, "but my niece, unfortunately, is having her 10th birthday party here, in this precinct."
Taehyung and Jihyun turned to each other while trying their best not to laugh and still wondering if this was real news. Captain Kim Namjoon wasn't the type of person who liked to joke around, so they were questioning why in the world there would be a birthday party in a police station.
"Uh, Captain Kim, sir," Taehyung said. "I'm sorry but I have to ask... why?"
Captain Kim glanced at everyone while pursing his lips for a while, seeming to feel embarrassed to tell them the reason why, but everyone was expecting an answer.
"My husband is currently mad at me for being at the precinct almost fifteen hours a day and that I never spend time with him and his family," he said, sighing, "so in order for him to forgive me, I have to make it up to him by celebrating my niece's birthday party here, so I can still keep in track updates from you all."
Everyone, including Taehyung and Jihyun, was really on the verge of bursting into laughter. However, Namjoon was still their captain so they needed to respect him as their superior officer.
After that, everyone went back to their desk and got themselves busy until the night finally arrived and kids started to run around the precinct like a playground.
"I can't believe Captain Kim really let kids make a police station a children's jungle playbook," Jihyun said, causing Taehyung to laugh.
"I definitely wasn't expecting this from him. He must love his husband so much," he said. "After all, there's plenty of good food to eat, so who am I to complain?"
We then went ahead to grab some chicken nuggets and some slices of pizza and ate it on my desk.
"Man, chicken nugget didn't taste this good when I was a kid," Taehyung said, letting out a moan just because he had some delicious nuggets. "It's so unfair."
"Dumb ass. Nuggets are so good these days because they are using chemical components a lot more than they were back then. Be grateful."
He chuckled. "Alright, alright. I'm gonna go to the restroom for a minute," he said while standing up. "Save my food. Don't let these little demons take it."
Jihyun chuckled too, then she gave him a thumbs up. Just right after he left, she was minding her own business when a little boy suddenly approached her.
"Excuse me, miss," he said, "may I know the direction to the men's restroom?"
Jihyun gave him a smile as his politeness warmed her heart. "Why, of course, handsome boy," she said before she pointed my index finger to Taehyung's back. "You should follow him. He's on his way to the restroom too."
He then looked at Taehyung before looking back at her. "Oh, you mean your boyfriend?"
She raised an eyebrow playfully as she giggled. "What? Why would you say he's my boyfriend?"
"Oh, I'm sorry if I made a mistake," he said. "I just thought that the way you look at him is really special. I would love for my future girlfriend to look at me like how you look at that guy."
Jihyun was confused. She didn't know what to say since no one had ever pointed it out before. She thought how she looked at Taehyung was the same as how she looked at anyone else.
Eventually, she just laughed it off. "I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm sure you'll someday find someone who will look at you with so much love in her eyes," she said, causing the boy to giggle and feel flattered.
After the boy left, Jungkook suddenly approached her. Jihyun quietly sighed as she just wanted to enjoy her meal without any men bothering her.
"Is the food good? I'm off duty now so I can enjoy the party with you," he said and she nodded.
"Well, there are only kids' food but it's good," she said. "Here. Try the nugget."
Jungkook took a bite of the chicken nugget and widened his eyes. "Woah. It's good!"
She sighed playfully. "Ah, I fear for the future health of men in our generation."
He then took a seat on Jihyun's desk and grabbed one nugget from her plate. "So," he said, "I notice you and Taehyung have made up."
"Yeah, we have," she said before she noticed the gloom face on his face. "You don't have to be jealous, Kook. You have nothing to worry about. Taehyung and I are friends, that's it."
"Well, you said that before but it turns out Taehyung's in love with you."
She chuckled. "Well, that's him, not me," she said. "Relax. He's not gonna take me away from you."
He was about to continue the conversation when the crowd suddenly got loud. Apparently, they were all applauding Taehyung who got dragged to the center room by the little boy who approached Jihyun earlier.
The little boy then gave him a guitar for him to play to the entire crowd in the precinct. Jihyun looked at Taehyung and was straight up laughing at him, but then she joined the crowd in cheering for him to sing something.
Taehyung saw her in the middle of the crowd and was looking quite confused, but he eventually agreed to perform a song after Jihyun gave him two thumbs ups.
Unsurprisingly, he sang Lucky by Jason Mraz with his guitar, a song about a guy who is glad to be in love with his best friend, with someone that he knows well and knows him well, with someone that he trusts, with someone that he can call home.
Taehyung's eyes was set on Jihyun who sat there looking at him with full of sparkles. In one way or another, this song was how he really felt about her and he hoped that she could listen to what he was saying because he wasn't planning to give up on his feelings without a little bit of fight.
