The Truth of a Secret

Chapter 25

--------Matt's POV--------

We pulled up into the hospital about 20 minutes after I got off the phone with Hayes. I was freaking out. I could tell that Nash was too. Even though he acted like he wasn't.

Cameron dropped Nash and I off at the entrance. We took off inside. Once we found Caleb's floor we went to the waiting room. Hayes was sitting in the corner by himself.

I sat down on the couch that was beside his chair. And Nash sat in a chair across from him. "How is everything?" I asked. "I don't know, anymore. It's like everything is fine one minute and the next..." Hayes trailed off. "The opposite." He finished.

"So where is Zoey?" Nash asked. "She went to the restroom. She didn't want me to see her cry." Hayes said burying his head in his hands.

A few minutes later Zoey walked into the waiting room. Her eyes were red and around her eyes were pink. I stood up and walked over to her.

I wrapped my arms around her. "You made it." She said into my shoulder. "Of course I did." I said. We walked over to the couch and she sat down next to me.

"So how is everything?" Nash asked. "My mom is in the room right now. They needed to talk to her." Zoey said playing with her bracelet.

"Everything is going to be ok." I said wrapping my arm around her. "Thanks." She smiled weakly.

"Hayes, are you ok?" Zoey asked. "Yeah." He said raising his head up. "Really?" Nash asked. "I'm fine. Just tired." Hayes said leaning his head in the wall.

We all sat there quietly. I didn't know what to say or do. I don't think anyone did. It felt like forever. I kept checking my phone for the time.

Zoey's head was laying on my shoulder and I could feel her slowly falling asleep. Hayes was asleep and Nash looked like he was about to be.

I was about to fall asleep when someone walked into the waiting room. I looked up to see Cameron and Abbs. I waved to them and moved Zoey so that she was laying down.

I stood up and walked over to Cam and Abbs. "Where were you guys?" I asked. "We went to get something to eat. We got you something." Abbs said waving a bag in my face.

They had been to Taco Bell and got everyone tacos. I took the bag and went back to sit by Zoey. Hayes woke up as soon as I opened my taco.

"Food?" He said opening his eyes. "Wow, Hayes." I said tossing him the bag. He grabbed a taco and devoured it. Nash then grabbed one and we all sat there eating.

Zoey woke up about 20 minutes later. "What's that smell?" She said rubbing her eyes. "Food, eat up." Nash said tossing her the bag. Zoey ate her taco and we all sat there.

Zoey looked up and saw Cameron and Abbs. "What are y'all doing here?" She said with a mouthful of food. I laughed. She rolled her eyes.

"Here for support." Abbs said standing up and walking over to Zoey. Zoey stood up and hugged Abbs. I was surprised at how well they were getting along.

We all sat in the waiting room telling stories for about 30 minutes. They were embarrassing, funny, and just plain weird.

We were interrupted by a woman walking into the room. A eyes turned to her. "How is he?" Zoey asked. "Zoey, Hayes," the woman said with tears in her eyes.

"What's wrong?" Hayes said jumping to his feet. "Mom!" Zoey screamed. She sounded terrified. We all froze. I watched the woman stand there about to tell us all something.

Either we would all be happy, or we a would be crushed. And I did not want it to be the second one. No one did.

"He's ok." The woman said smiling. I saw a tear roll down her cheek. Zoey ran into her arms and I could hear he sobs. I turned towards Hayes and saw that his eyes were filled with tears.

Zoey broke from the hug and ran towards Hayes. She cried into his shoulder as he cried into hers. You couldn't tell whose cries were whose.

Zoey let go of Hayes and turned towards me. I opened up my arms and she ran into them. "He's ok." She said into my shoulder. "He's going to be ok."

"I told you." I said. She looked up at me and smiled through the tears. "I know." She said hugging me tighter.
