Colby's POV

How do you tell?

How could I lie to her, like that?

I was supposed to say it before something like this happened and made everything more complicated. Not that I didn't enjoy it or that it wasn't amazing, cause it really was. She was amazing. She also made me soft, like disgustingly soft and caring but she also made me fall hard for her. Ahh fuck! She was the one thing in my life I needed the most before all of this happened, a girl who wasn't like the others. Deeper like most and who didn't care what people thought. I just knew she was that type of girl, even though I had never seen her interact with anyone from LA, I knew she would beat their asses, and I knew everyone in the friend group would love. I guess that was the problem too. She was all I wanted but the timing was off, and... well, I know what the next step was. It was too late to tell her. I had a plan on how to get her to San Francisco, but everything had to go according to the plan, and I had to get it together before it was too late as well.

I soon realized I couldn't sleep with my mind running off with crazy thoughts. The streetlights were the only thing lighting up the city and the darkness was truly taking over, illuminating any light. I felt my heard aching for something that once filled these streets I could see from the window of Julia's room. I didn't know if it was the noise at the night, the cars normally going by, perhaps the drunk people just walking around or maybe it was the sense of being a part of something bigger. Being in a big city like this. Didn't think it could get darker than this. So dark, you can't let yourself dream about something better, almost like you didn't deserve it.

I wasn't sure if I was the good or bad guy anymore. I wasn't sure if handing Julia over to the gangs was worth it. I wasn't sure if I could forget Julia or if I could forgive myself.

"ehm...".

I knew it.

I slowly turned around to take a look at Mathew.

"You got what we talked about?"

"Yeah.".

I didn't' smile but walked across the room to the drawer and opened before pointing down in it. Mathew was looking around, studying the room, the bed and then the peaceful Julia still laying. Luckily, I had cleaned everything, put clothes on her and made the bed on the other side to let them believe nothing happened.

"we agreed that was what you wanted, what you needed?".

I asked into the room, trying to get his attention, since I was getting uncomfortable by the way he was looking at her, like a fucking predator ready to bite into its prey. But his eyes never left her sleeping body and kept going. I noticed the scratches on his face and all over his arms, some of them new others old. The gun was in the its case on his hip. He was as tall as I was, but his shadow reached far into the room and it was hard for me to see his face from the light behind him.

"I'm not blind, Colby. But I don't care either, as long as you get her in one piece tomorrow night"

He ended his sentenced while looking at me, analyzing every bit of me, trying to break me. But I knew he was gonna try a lot harder if he wanted me to break.

"And remember what you get out of this."

He then walked closer to me and looked next to me at the drawer and turned his attention to what was inside. We didn't say anything while he looked the papers through and expressed his surprise. I noticed how older he was next to me, had to be at least ten years older. I noticed his harsh skin, his veins in his neck, the way his nose looked slightly broken from where I was standing.

"Where are they?

I had been waiting for those words to come out and to finally get an answer even though I sounded a lot more desperate that I wanted to seem. I looked at him, trying to understand what he really wanted with me, since he had gotten what he needed.

"you'll find out."

He quickly grabbed the papers and shoved it down his pocket before turning around to the door but stopped when I grabbed his shoulder. In one swift move, I quickly shoved him into the bathroom door which opened. He noticed though and got me on the floor pretty quickly before he straddled me and readied himself to make a punch, but I escaped his grip and pushed him off of me and into the hard stonewall which took some energy from him. I felt my heart race as I stood with the neck of his shirt in my fist and as my other fist was thrown through the air until it hit his face. "Where are they!?". He must've been knocked out for a couple of seconds since he didn't say anything nor look at me. the blood was dripping down his nose onto his busted lip and down his shirt as I felt the damages from the punches, I had thrown at him. My knuckles were bleeding too, and I felt the pain in my abdominal once again so recognizable which I hated. I knew I had to clean all of this up and check on it myself before Julia woke up.

"There's eyes on you everywhere, you know that right... I'm watching you...my crew is watching you. I know you, Colby"

His voice was raspy and harsh, but his busted lip was also bleeding all over his mouth, making him spit out a chunk of it to speak again.

"You wanna know where your friends are? Bring her tomorrow. You wanna see them? There's a picture in my back pocket."

He seemed stronger by now, but he wasn't moving against my actions as I grabbed down his pocket and found what he had told me about.

"You don't know me."

I then let go of his shirt and let him fall down against the hard cold stonewall while I let my bloody fingers scrape against the picture.

A picture of Sam, who looked worse than the man who was sitting behind me.

And he wasn't the only one.
