Chapter 10 (Edited)

I tried to remember the way to the library, but eventually gave up and asked my way to a passing maid.

When I opened the door, it was quiet, so I figured that nobody was here. I looked around and my first thought was confirmed; I was alone. Why would Elisa tell me to come here? I looked at the clock and saw that I still had ten minutes before she came.

I walked along the shelves and read the titles of the books, diving deeper into all the potential options I could have to read later. Suddenly, I my eyebrows shot up as I found a book with the name of my kingdom. The secret of the kingdom of Ravenport. Intrigued, I took it and started reading the first page.

'The kingdom of Ravenport: It hides a well-guarded secret, almost forgotten by everyone. This book is made for future generations, but not everyone can use it. It only gives clues about the secret, and the one who can discover it must have the key, the rose and the map. It is made for times of war for the throne, so it can determine who the True Ruler of the kingdom is.'

My heart was pounding in my chest at the end of the sentence. I looked at the date of apparition. 1430. Oh. It's really old, I thought. No wonder nobody knows of this secret anymore.

"So, Anna, you can read?", a male voice asked. I quickly put the book back in its place and turned around to find Thomas staring intently at me with his electric blue eyes.

"Oh, uhm... yes I can read," I made the fast decision to tell him. I didn't want him to get the feeling that I was lying.

I blushed a little. Why am I blushing? I'm normally a good liar. But he continued staring at me, while I was squirming under his gaze. Yes, I admit, it was making me nervous.

"Mhm, so what were you reading?", he asked, finally breaking eye contact, walking over to the couches and sitting down.

"Just a book about a composer I like," I said after a little hesitation, and walked over to sit in an armchair in front of him.

"Oh, which one?"

"Hmm, Wolfgang Amadeus Merzingen."

"Good choice. I also like his music very much."

"Yes," I agreed, "My favorite is 'Eine kleine Tagmusik', but the arrangement for the pianoforte so I can play it alone. But I also like the sonata 'Alla Syrian', it's a really lively piece, and it was written especially for the pianoforte," I said, relaxing a little.

"Indeed, it is," he said and nodded, "but just so I know, what were you doing in the 'R' section of the library if you were reading a book about Merzingen?" He raised his eyebrows.

I froze.

It's just then, that Elisa entered the library, followed by Gaby. "We're here," she announced with a smile. Thank God.

"I'm glad you came, Anna," she said. "The library is our usual hang-out spot for the three of us. I was feeling lonely as the only girl between these two. I finally have someone to talk to," she said and walked over to sit next to me.

"Hey!", Gaby exclaimed. "We're not that bad!"

"Excuse me, but yes, you're that bad," she replied.

"No, I'm not!" She narrowed her eyes at him.

"Who's the one who made Chris and Lily pass the gates?", she asked.

Gaby shut his mouth. Then he hesitantly said, "You... You know?" He cringed as he saw Elisa getting more and more worked up.
