"Rise and shine, kindred. Training begins now!"

Logan was startled away by a booming voice echoing around the cave, everyone else also jerking awake, Nightingale springing to his hooves and looking as if he were about to stab someone. Fynn sprang up and inadvertently head-butted Nightingale in the shoulder, falling back down on his rear. Remus and Roman knocked heads, their horns clashing and sounding like two stones being hit together. Janus just laid in a ball of tension with Patton curled next to him the same way, both staring at everyone with wide eyes, but frozen in place. Virgil slipped when he shot up, his hooves sliding on the ice and sending him back to the ground with a muted thud.

"Calm down all, 'tis only us. Our kindred needs to arise for his training to begin," laughed Shadow, nudging their friend with their flank.

Nightingale flopped back onto the ground, Fynn giggling softly and laying his head over Nightingale's neck. Everyone else settled down as well, returning to their previous spots.

"Now friend, are you ready for your first lesson?" Brother asked, a big grin on his face as he looked down at Logan.

"Suppose I am," answered Logan, heaving himself to his hooves and following the two out of the cave, leaving the others behind him.

Brother and Shadow marched out into the tundra, freshly fallen snow glistening in the weak morning rays as the sun peaked over the horizon. The snow was kicked up into a powder as they walked, the two unicorns leading the foreigner to a cliff side edge over looking a valley several dozen feet below.

Logan looked out and, to his greatest surprise, saw other creatures out in the frigid temperatures. There was a herd of pale blue, white, and black oxen looking creatures gathered on one side, some silver wolf-like creatures on the other, with an odd fox and ferret mixed creature wandering around in the middle. A flock of mystical birds flew over head, trills and twitters coming from the creatures as they flew.

"Lovely isn't it?" asked Brother after a few minutes.

"It's breathtaking. I knew creatures could survive in frigid temperatures like this, but I never saw it with my own eyes," Logan breathed, tiny puffs of air coming from his nostrils, the warm clashing with the cold.

"Well, the first lesson," Shadow demanded the other two's attention, the shorter of the two Northern Boreal unicorns pawing at the snow with their left hoof.

"To use magic you must first understand it, and connect with it. Magic isn't necessarily something you control, it's a gift, a part of oneself that you have been blessed with," started Shadow.

"Yes. Think of magic not as a tool, nor weapon, but as another part of yourself. Magic runs through our veins the same way our blood does, it's a part of us. Once you connect with your magic then the rest should be simple," continued Brother.

"Alright. So how does one connect to their magic?" Logan asked.

"First close your eyes," instructed Shadow, Logan following their directions.

"Next, relax your body. You're safe here, let your guard down completely. Trust yourself to relax," Brother said.

"If laying down helps with that then lay down," added Shadow.
