The void years are 50 years period after the 9th century that seemed to disappear from time.
There are no texts, books, scrolls or any type of evidence that those 50 years ever existed.
The void years are also called the obliviscatur period, because people who were born in that period seemed to have gaps in their memory.

Note- obliviscatur means to forget in Latin.

Although Enid had agreed to continue her training, she found it difficult to move forward.
She became clumsy and unmotivated which got on Avery's nerves.

"Get out of my face. Just go."

It was mid-day. Enid had been trying to take the essence of the tree.
It was a task she ought to have perfected.

"I'll get it right this time."

"No you won't, just leave before I loose my temper!" Avery's voice shook as she tried to contain her anger.

Enid sighed and walked out confused and frustrated.

The sky was a bright blue colour and there were no clouds in sight.

Enid sat on the front porch under the glare of the midday sun that seemed to be mocking her with it's intensity.

Enid stared at her feet, loosely listening to the squeals of children playing at the end of the street.
She rarely played anymore and never with other children.

She had always known that she was different and that the world did not accept her. That was why she basically lived in secret, without an identity.

She knew that the world would not hand her anything she desired so she would have to work harder than anyone else.

But as she sat there, she realized that she had only one desire.
She did not want revenge on her parents nor did she want them to accept her. She could not care less about them.
Even being an IMD soldier was just a secondary fancy.

All she desired was to be remembered. She did not want to die without anyone knowing who she was.
She did not care what she was labelled as, so far she was known.

The sound of hooves clacking against the concrete floors shot Enid from her thoughts.

A royal carriage stopped in front of the cottage.
This wasn't too odd as Avery usually got visits from members of the Royal family, usually to try to convince her to come back home and settle down.

The carriage doors opened and a man stepped out.
He sported the family black hair and blue eyes but unlike the Royals Enid had ever seen, his eyes did not hold the loneliness that Avery and Micah's did, neither were they dull looking like the rest of them were.

He looked down at Enid. They were sharp and calculating.
They looked like the eyes of a ruthless man.

Enid's stomach churned in fear. She tried to look away but she felt like an unknown force willed her to keep staring.

She felt a hand on her head and she looked up to see Avery staring at the man with a different type of intensity than she was used to.

"Alexander, you're back from your studies abroad? What are you doing here?"

The man gave a small smile and stretched out his hands, as if asking for a hug.

"Come now. Is that anyway to greet your elder brother. "

"If you were expecting a welcoming party then I'm sorry to disappoint you. Now answer my question."

Alexander let his hands fall beside him and sighed. Out of every member of his family, he had the most regal aura.
He was strikingly handsome, in a military type of way.

"I heard from mother that you're still refusing to settle down. Come now Avery, aren't you a little too old for all these games?" He looked amused but his voice dripped with unspoken implications.

"It's none of your business what I do with my life."

"Oh on the contrary, it is. As the crowned prince it is my responsibility to keep the image of the royal household as clean as possible. You haven't been making that job easy for me but now that I have returned, I'll make sure to pick up on you."

Enid felt Avery's grasp tighten.

"You seem to have forgotten what I'm capable of. You'll never force me to do anything I don't want to."

Avery tried to sound strong but the shaking in her voice failed her.

Alexander laughed.
It was slow and mirthless.

"No, it seems like you're the one who's forgotten what I'm capable of."

He turned to one of the guards who Enid just noticed and signalled to him.
The guard walked up to Avery and grabbed her.

"What do you think you're doing?" She asked, slapping the guard without waiting for him to reply.

Enid had never seen Avery look so cornered and anxious. The sight terrified her.

"Let her go!" She yelled panicking.

Alexander turned his focus to her.

"And who's this?"

"No one you should be concerned about."
Avery shoved Enid behind her, suddenly turning pale.

Alexander went on paying her no mind.

"She looks like someone I know...those eyes are really familiar."

The guard that held Avery moved to the side as Alexander walked towards her.

"Avery, that can't be who I think it is, now can it?"

The atmosphere chilled a couple degrees as Alexander's eyes bored into Avery's soul.

"Enid," Avery called quietly.

"Run."

Enid bolted without a thought, but before she could cover any distance, Alexander grabbed her by the neck and yanked her up to his eye level.

Enid's screetch filled the streets but were ignored by passersby.
They knew who's carriage that was and they knew that they had no power to stop what was happening.

"You can't be, Aaron got rid of that abomination...but I am a meticulous man so I'll get rid of you just in case."

Enid suddenly began to feel, seering heat in her very core. It felt like her blood was boiling and her veins throbbed.
It was the first time she had ever felt pain like that.
It was urgent and disorienting; it disabled her from feeling any other thing.

She was about to scream again but blood spewed from her throat as soon as she opened her mouth.

At that point, she realized that if that lasted any longer, she was going to die.
She felt the life draining from her and the hands she previously used to scratch the arms of the prince hung limply besides her.

But just as quickly as the pain started, it stopped.
The prince let her neck go and she fell to the floor.

She could barely look up to see the Prince clutching his head and staring at the floor in horror.

Enid didn't have to look at Avery to know that she had used her magic on him.

"Why the fuck are you still lying there?! Run!!!"

Despite the angry pleas of her lungs, Enid got up and ran down the streets blindly.

In between the loud throbbing of her head and the indescribable pain, Enid felt the guilt of leaving Avery behind gnawing at her.

After crying about being abandoned so often, she was doing the same thing to someone who had helped her all these years.

Silent tears blurred her vision as she ran into the sunset with her heart heavy with uncertainty and fear.

I finally squeezed out the time to write a new chapter. I missed my babies so much.
I feel like I did a terrible job of portraying Alexander😅
He gives me chills in my mind.

Anyways, thank you for reading. Vote and comment if you enjoyed the chapter.
Thanks.
