Although there are 9 types of magic, magic was categorized into 2 main types by ancient scholars; projectile magic and stationary magic.
Projectile magic include; Fire, water, earth, metal, air and laws of physics.
Stationary magic include; Hypnosis, enhancement and transformation.
However as more time passed, people discovered that this was not an efficient form of categorization as some variants of magic classified under projectile magic were stationary.
For example, heat magic which is a variant to fire magic under the projectile class is stationary (ie, does not project out of the user) and vice versa.
So, this form of categorization has been rendered obsolete but is still sometimes used to differentiate magic that can be projected out and magic that cannot.
Ps- that picture reminds me of Goliath.
It was barely dawn but Rachael was wide awake.
She had hardly slept at all. It all still seemed surreal to her.
Before she had started going to Mrs Ingram's school, she had never comprehended the idea of doing anything for her own sake.
It was odd but exciting.
She couldn't wait to see Hyde again, to see Micah again and tell him that she could finally read.
She had been afraid to write to him all these years.
She thought that she had exaggerated her existence in his life but she assumed they would probably have to see each other since they would be living under the same roof.
She took a deep breath and sat up.
"Oh you're awake."
She turned to Goliath who was on the floor with a pillow and a blanket with his hands across his chest.
The more Rachael looked at him, the more distant he seemed.
"Yeah, were you able to get any sleep?"
"I was out all night, but we're going to have to leave soon," he said getting up.
"Alright."
...
When the carriage finally stopped, it was evening and most of the snow had thawed.
Rachael looked out the window to see a grayer, more intimidating version of the palace. However, what intrigued her was the even larger building beside it.
Completely painted white, it had a white flag with a red Phoenix behind the front gate.
"That's the institute of magical defence; the soliders live, work and train there," Goliath said mounting down the horse and opening the carriage.
"It's huge! I didn't expect it to be right beside the castle," Rachael said hopping down with her luggage.
"Well, Aaron doesn't like to be too far from his work."
The familiarity in Goliath's tone made Rachael raise an eye.
Unlike in the palace, there were no guards protecting the gates of the castle. They walked in and met a maid wearing green, waiting for them.
"This is Aria's new magic instructor, inform Himiko that she's arrived. "
"Right away sir," she said and hurried on inside.
"Sir?" Rachael turned to Goliath in confusion.
"Oh...yeah, I guess I didn't introduce myself properly. I'm the Captain of the 4th division of the institute of magical defence; Goliath," he said bowing slightly with a grin.
"C..Captain?" Rachael stared in disbelief.
"I get it, I don't look like much."
"Oh, no I didn't..."
Right before Rachael's eyes, Goliath began to grow taller and his dull brown hair became lighter until it became golden. His skin became more tan and his muscles grew.
