Not Your Ordinary Life

Chapter Four

Angelina and Thorin shortly arrived home, and entered the house, as Angelina immediately started breakfast. "What's wrong with our Aunt? You two didn't fight did you?" asked Caroline. "No, we didn't fight. Lets just say we seen an old foe of your Aunt's." said Thorin. Caroline's eyes widened in horror. "But he was supposed to be in prison!!" exclaimed Caroline. "And I think he's following us. Dwalin, Gloin, would you mind stepping out on the front porch and keep guard. This Chris will NOT set foot near Angelina or her girls." said Thorin. "Who is the man?" asked Dwalin. "I will tell you later." said Thorin. Dwalin nodded, as he and Gloin stepped outside, weapons in hand.    When breakfast is served, the topic began about the research. "Here's the good news. I have a development about the portal.  There is a legend in my town near an old waterfall just outside Springfield that is known for portals to open, and rumors have spread about people disappearing into those portals and not returning." said Caroline. 

 "And?" said Thorin. "Well anyway, once I dugged deeper into the research, and there is truth about the portal.  The portal appear a certain part of the season on a night of a full moon." said Caroline. "And when is that precisely, lassie?" asked Balin. "October 11th." Caroline replied. "Good! Thank you, Miss Caroline for sharing the information. Now we know the actual date to depart." said Thorin. "Which is only a few months from now, Thorin. So you have three months of staying here with us, unfortunately. But we are going with you, however, so you're probably used to us already." rambled Madison. Kili laughed.   "You seem to ramble on a lot do you?" joked the young dwarf prince.    "Yes." said Madison. "We should call her motor mouth Maddie!" laughed Fili. "Ha, ha, very funny, Fee!" said Madison, rolling her eyes, as the company laughed.  

 And therefore, Madison is forever called 'Motormouth Maddie' by her sister, and the Company. "What shall we do now since we're going to be here for three months?" asked Ori. "Sit back, relax, and learn some of our customs of our world!" grinned Madison.  "What's this?" asked Thorin, as he found a  brown acoustic guitar sitting in the living room. "That's my father's guitar. I don't play it. It was left behind with his belongings after he passed away." said Angelina.  Thorin looked at the instrument with fascination. "Its no different than a harp, Thorin. You can play it if you want. If Aunt Angie doesn't mind." said Madison. "I don't mind. He can play it if he wants." said Angelina. Thorin nodded, as he sat the instrument on his lap.  "Lad, that's not how you play it. Like Madison says, its not a harp." said Bofur.  

 "Have you played guitar, Bofur?" asked Caroline. "They have guitars in our world, but they are called lutes, I play very little of it. I mostly play my flute whistle." said Bofur.  Thorin began strumming gently, and to everyone's amazement, the dwarf began playing rather well, even if he knew very little of the instrument.  "Lets sing one of our songs to the girls." said Bofur.  Dwalin nodded, as everyone gathered around, and Angelina sat with her nieces.    As Thorin began strumming the guitar, he started to sing, shortly joined in by the other dwarves:

Far over the misty mountains cold

To dungeons deep, and caverns old

We must away, ere break of day

To find our long, forgotten gold

The pines were roaring on the height

The winds were moaning in the night

The fire is red, it flaming spread

The trees like torches, blazed with light. 

  Angelina stood frozen as she listening to the singing.  She felt mesmerized by the dwarf leader's voice, and quite impressed how he played the guitar, which he knew little of.  And now this image of Thorin singing, remained in her mind throughout the day.    "I think our Aunt is smitten with Thorin!" Caroline whispered to her sister. "No, kidding! How did you figure that out, Care?" said Madison, sarcastically. "Did you see how she reacted when Thorin started to sing--he's got quite a singing voice on him." said Caroline. "Well so does Fili and Kili." said Madison.
