Chapter Sixteen

In the healing chambers, Angelina and Madison had woken up as Oin tended to their injuries. "How ar they?" asked Caroline.  "Madison as a broken arm, and Angelina's wrist is fractured!" Oin replied, gravely.  Sadness clouded the room, as Caroline sat with her family. "I will leave you three alone!" said Oin, as he nodded to them and left. "We're going home. We cannot stay here." said Angelina. "How can we go home? We're stuck here, remember? There's an army of orcs approaching Erebor--we cannot just leave!" said Caroline.  "Caroline is right." said Madison.  "Listen you two, things may have gone to hell right now, but at least we have each other right? Remember that song we used to sing all the time? Well actually, Angelina sung it us all the time." said Caroline. "I Stand By You'!' I love that song! Please sing it, Care, just for old times!" said Angelina.   Caroline smiled as she started to sing:

There were tears in Caroline's eyes as she sang, both Madison and Angelina teared up as well.   Fili and Kili stood outside the door as they heard Caroline sang, as tears swelled in their eyes. "If only Uncle would wake up and hear this song. This would snap him out of it." said Kili, sadly.  Fili and Kili entered the healing chamber. "Fili!" said Caroline, as she turned to the young dwarf prince. "Caroline--that is absolutely beautiful!! Words cannot express how beautiful the song is! Is that one of the songs from your world?" said Fili.  Caroline nodded. "Yes. It was Maddie and I's favorite song. Our Aunt used to sing it to us every night when we were younger." said Caroline. "That indeed is a beautiful song!" said a deep voice nearby.  "UNCLE!" exclaimed Fili and Kili as everyone turned and see Thorin standing in the doorway. Thorin no longer wore the golden armor, and is now dressed in his black leather jacket, tunic, and chain armor.  

 "Fili, Kili, will you give us a moment please?" Thorin asked quietly.  Fili and Kili nodded as they left the room.  "Listen, I came to apologize for my actioins towards all of you--I heard your song from the hallway, and I stopped to listen. I never heard such a beautiful song in my entire life time, and it broke me--!" began Thorin, as he quickly looked away, trying to hide his tears.  But he couldn't take it any more, and he broke down.  "You're right, Madison--I am a Monster. I've hurt the ones I loved--and Angelina--the thought of striking you and your niece-it hurts--!" choked Thorin. Angelina climbed out ofthe bed, and she ran to the dwarf, and embracing him. "Thorin, you are no monster--it was the gold sickness that made you that way---but look at you now--you're back to the Thorin that I remembered: the Thorin who loves and care for his people and family." said Angelina, placing her hand on Thorin's face.
