The trip around the lake took me half the night but I was going slow so as to make very little noise. Their sentry positions had not changed since the last time so it was easy for me to slip into their compound and leave them a present they could use. I quietly unloaded the cooler unit and set up the charger next to it then got back on my vehicle and quietly rode out of there. They would find the food in the morning.

Halfway back to my home I thought there was someone else out there flying as well but dismissed it as most likely someone doing night sentry duty in a flight suit or my fatigue catching up with me. I soon had welcome company on the remainder of the trip back as Wolf found me and hopped up onto trailer to hitch a free ride back to home.

It made me laugh when he did this and yawned. "Getting lazy these days aren't we my friend." He just wagged his tail at me as I continued to drive back to my home. Once I arrived and shut down the vehicle then hooked a charging cable up to it it was time for bed. It had been a long day for me but a lot of repairs had been needing done so rather than put anything off again I went ahead and got everything repaired, cleaned, and even managed do a good deed tonight.

There was still an internal debate going on inside of me about whether or not to reveal myself to the colony. So far my desire to play it safe was winning the argument. Too many people have had ugly thoughts about avians and a few have done some truly horrible things to us. Even though I was not alive when it happened, it still bothered me that the Earth government rounded up every avian, every aquatic newcomer, and every last one of the cat people and banished them from Earth forever to a secret location.

I considered it one of Earth's darkest times. Even over 300 years later, very few avians were left alive on the earth. Those few of us left stayed mostly hidden from everyone for fear of being blamed for the alien attacks or being accused of being a mutant or maybe even labeled as aliens ourselves. You have to love the unreasoning hatred of a few idiots spreading lies and misinformation in order to justify their own ignorance and fear.

Even though the few of us on Earth were not forced off world it did not matter as Earth was dying and they would not allow us to migrate off of Earth simply because we were different than others. With this kind of prejudice it is no wonder I am a bit paranoid about revealing myself just yet. Maybe if I waited a while longer they would prove to me they were not going to distrust me because of my race, and maybe I could yet earn their trust. It is something that seems like a fantasy dream but one has to have a few dreams to long for or they are nothing more than a shell.

The morning sun came streaming in through one of the few windows in my place and woke me up. It is rare for me to sleep past daybreak but last night had been a long night. A quick check on the sensor logs showed all my equipment working nicely and nothing bad waiting outside for me. It looked to be another good day for me to get the second field plowed and maybe go hunting or exploring in the afternoon. For now though, the second field needed plowing and fertilizing in preparation for planting in a few days.

COLONY

Sarah and Jake woke up to the sound of someone knocking lightly on the door to their small house. Sarah grabbed a robe, kissed Jake, then got out of bed to answer the door. "She looked at her watch and was surprised it was only 4:49 in the morning. Standing at her door and looking tired himself was a young man named Mitch. "I apologize for waking you so early ma'am, but we had a visitor last night that left us something you will both want to see."
