I scanned my wings and winced at how bad the damage had been to the wings. One had been broken in five places and all but ripped off. The other one had four deep rips in it from the claws of the beast. It's a wonder I had not bled to death with how badly I had been torn up. My wings would however support my flight but it would be a few days before I dared to try flying the canyons again.
My thoughts were interrupted by wolf as he tackled me and licked my face with his raspy tongue and his tail battered my leg as it waged furiously. I laughed and hugged him then ruffled his fur and scratched his head where he liked it scratched. "It's good to see you too my friend! Let's go for a walk shall we?" He beat me to the doorway as always.
I spent the day walking in the forest with wolf and playing with him and other members of his pack who were all glad to see me back up and around again as well. It felt good to just relax and let the mystery go and to play with the wolves in the forest for a while. Halfway through the day I felt the wind and the wolves all looked into the sky and then back at me.
Bless them. They knew I needed to fly so without hesitation I spread my wings and leaped into the sky. I was surprised as several of the large birds from the canyon joined me in gliding on the warm air currents and soaking up the sunshine as it warmed my wings and body. The birds flew several simple maneuvers that I duplicated easily enough but winced a little as my wings were still a little sore.
Once the sun started to get low in the sky the birds turned back for home as I did the same thing. I was surprised to find out just how tired I really was from this day of just having fun after having to spend a couple of days in a medical pod being healed and put back together again. I decided to never get caught off guard again and to carry a blaster with me at all times from now on.
I felt stiff and sore as I walked back into my house and got into the waiting tub of warm water I had the computer start when I was about ten minutes from the house so that when I got home it was waiting for me. "Computer, Medical scan of my body. Add any medications to the water that will be needed by my body to help with healing." A moment later a squirt of milky white liquid was mixed into the water as I climbed into the tub for a soak in warm water.
The water felt good as I relaxed and let my mind relax and mull over the mystery of my rescuer. I reviewed the internal sensor logs and found they showed another being with me lifting me into the medical pod and then activating what they could figure out. They had only set it for stabilize which is why I had hurt so bad when it woke me up later.
After several hours of tinkering with the main recordings I could not get enough data recovered to find out who my rescuer was so I got sneaky about it and went into my back up copies of the data I had but rarely viewed. The back up recordings were not mentioned and only I and the computer knew about them.
I was shocked to see a huge creature that was a cross between a tige rand a human lifting me gently off of the floor and setting me in the pod. There are felinoids on this world was my first thought and then it hit me that the tiger had spoken perfect federation English! This was not a felinoid but was one of the cat people that the Earth had created several centuries ago back in the early 21st century!
It took me a few moments to wrap my head around the facts and to realize that if there was one that this might be the world they were all exiled to during the sad time when the people of earth were fighting their first human and alien war. They were afraid of avians, cat people, and the aquatic shape shifters that lived in the ocean so they banished them all to a planet in deep space to die.
