Recklessness and stupidity

Ayame's pov

We followed Pakkun, who was going to lead us to Sasuke. We jumped from tree to tree, in a quick pace.

After a while, we found an unconcious Kankuro. I guess we all were wondering how he ended up like that. Well, at least I was.

We ignored and ran further. We found Temari sone time later. We had to leave Shikamaru behind to fight Temari.

Once we found Sasuke, we saw that he was fighting Gaara. Only it wasn't the Gaara I knew. Half of his body was transformed in some kind of beast. Before I knew it, a scream escaped my lips. "Gaara!" I yelled. Gaara turned around and I saw he was looking sad. Sad because I had to see him like this. Was this what he was talking about yesterday?

Sasuke attacked him, using the technique he learned from my dad, Chidori. Gaara's sand protected him without him doing anything. I used the opportunity of him being busy with Sasuke, to sneak up from behind and calm him down.

"Gaara," I said calmly when I was behind him. "calm down. Please."

He turned around and I saw one of his eyes turned into the eye of a demon.

Naruto's pov

I stared at what was happening. Ayame sneaked up on the guy from behind, but she didn't attack him. She actually talked to him. "AYAME!" I yelled. "WHY WON'T YOU ATTACK HIM?!"

She looked over her shoulder. "I can't." she said. "I just... can't."

This wasn't like her, giving up without fighting. "WHY CAN'T YOU FIGHT HIM?!"

She didn't have time to respond, because his tail attacked her. Sasuke jumped in front of her, covered in strange markings. She looked up stared at Sasuke. "That was stupid, you know!" she said. "You could have been hurt!"

"Less stupid than you not attacking him while you had the change." he replied.

"Oh, are you back to the insulting phase?" she said.

Ayame's pov

"SASUKE! LOOK OUT!" Naruto yelled, but it was too late. The tail was getting closer and almost hit Sasuke. I jumped in between and got hit instead.

What was it with me today? I kept doing things without even thinking about what I was doing. I fell from the branch, but was caught by someone.

I opened my eyes and saw I was caught by Kazuo. Wait, why was Kazuo here? How did he find us in the first place?

Kazuo's pov

I had been following Ayame since she left. I guess no one had noticed I was awake all the time.

When I saw her jump behind Gaara, I thought she was acting reckless.

When she fell down with closed eyes, I jumped out of my hiding place and caught her. She opened her eyes and looked confused.

"Think before you act." I said. "I thought that is what you always tell Kazuki."

She looked at me with an irritated look on her face. Probably because I used her own words against her.

"Don't embarrass me like that..." she muttered. "I had my reasons..."

I shook my head and put her down. "You could say thank you." I said with a smirk.

"I don't need to say thank you." she said before turning away. "My 'thank you' is that I won't kill you."

I turned away and looked at Gaara - who turned half into a monster - and saw that Sasuke was laying unconcious on a branch nearby. Naruto and Sakura sat beside him with a small dog.

I saw that Ayame jumped to the branch too, and I quickly followed her. When she tried to go to Gaara again, I stopped her. "Don't do anything rash and stupid." I said. "I don't want to loose you."

She sighed. "Fine." she said. "I won't."

Suddenly, the tail came near us again and Sakura was pinned to a tree. "SAKURA!" we yelled in unision. Naruto attacked Gaara, but it was no use.

When Ayame and I offered our help, he declined. "I'll take him." he said. "I won't let any of my friends get hurt!"

Ayame sighed, probably thinking that the stupidity she had shown had been topped by Naruto. "Naruto, you can't fight him alone!" she warned him. "If we want to beat him, we'll have to work together!"

We prevented Naruto from attacking him without us to make a plan. "We won't kill him, got it?" Ayame said.

"But he has Sakura-chan!" Naruto yelled.

"I know, but this isn't how he's usually like!"

I tried to calm them down, but it was no use. They were both too stubborn.

We suddenly heard a groan and we looked at - now awake - Sauke. He was still too weak to fight, but at least he was alive.

When we made a plan, we attacked him, but our plan didn't work. We all created shadow clones, but they were destroyed by Gaara's sand. After multiple attempts, the only one who had chakra left was Naruto, Ayame had used too much and fainted and I couldn't move at all.

I might have used too much chakra too... Right now, Naruto truly is our last hope.

Before I knew it, everything went black and I fell unconcious.
