Chapter 26: Let The Festival Begin!

Somewhere in Vale, 8:40 am

Ruby was standing in front of a grave with the name "Summer Rose" engraved on it.

Ruby: Hey mom. Sorry I haven't come by in a while. Things have been... well, things have been, pretty busy. Oh, Dad's here, too! He's, uh, you know... Dad.  He's still teaching at Signal, but recently he went on a lot of missions and is leaving for another one soon. I think he misses adventuring with you. ... I miss you too. Haven't gotten kicked out of Beacon yet! So that's cool. I think being on team with Yang helps. I Keep her in line... That was a joke. She's actually a really great fighter! She even developed techniques beyond dad's. Oh, so are Weiss and Blake. They're my teammates! Together, we form Team RWBY! And yes, before you ask, that does cause a lot of confusion (although definitely less confusing than team EJEA though). Anyways, I made a bunch of new friends, some of them can be... quite mysterious. Oh! We've also stopped some bad guys, too! I guess it's like they say: "like mother, like daughter"! 

Suddenly, she heard a bark from behind her. When Ruby turned around she saw Zwei and Shay waiting for her.

Ruby: Oh! Looks like Dad's back! I gotta go! He's dropping me off at Beacon for the tournament match before he goes on his next mission. Wish me luck! It was good to talk.

With that said, Ruby jogged back to Shay and Zwei and left, for her first fight of the Vytal Festival.

Amity Colosseum, 1:30 pm

Jacob, runned down the stairs of the colosseum with snacks in hand. He made it to the row where Evie was sitting.

Jacob: So, what did I miss?

Evie: Don't worry the match just begun and out favourite team is still tied with the other. In fact, the rule announcement will start right about...

Port (from speaker): Hello! It seems that we have another astonishing bout ahead of us! Wouldn't you agree, Professor?

Oobleck (from speaker): Doctor! And yes Peter, I think it's safe to say this match may be the closest we've seen of the four-on-four round of the tournament!

Port (from speaker): For those of you just now joining us, welcome to the Vytal Festival Tournament, broadcast live from the Amity colosseum. If this is your first time watching, allow us to break down the rules. 

Oobleck (from speaker): The tournament is divided into three distinctive rounds; teams, doubles, and singles. Age and school year are irrelevant! In this tournament, your only attribute being tested... is skill.

Port (from speaker): Correct! The winners of this battle will elect two of their members to represent them in the doubles round, followed by the winners of that round choosing one member to advance once again. The remaining combatants will then fight their way through the final bracket in the hope of achieving victory for their kingdom!

Oobleck (from speaker): And yes, Peter, these certainly are some spectacular spectacles on which to spectate on! I don't think anyone tuning in around the world is going to disagree with me on that!

Port (from speaker):  Ahh, and why would they? Now, let's get back to the match between Team RWBY of Beacon, and ABRN of Haven!

Meanwhile...

(Battle Music!)

... a girl named Reese was steering through the ice on her hoverboard, before kicking it towards Blake who deflected it back, with Reese doing the same. After the third time, Blake went for a striker with her sword, only for it to get blocked by Reese who used her hoverboard as a shield and exchange a few blows as well. Finally she jumped back and onto the hoverboard and charged at Blake, who used her semblance leaving an ice copy of her self. When Reese shattered the copy, Blake used the opening to cut her hoverboard in half, which only made the halfs turn into duel beyonet-pistols. Reese tried to land a couple shots on Blake, but missed them all before her tailbone collided with the ice cold ground. Blake winced in sympathy. Meanwhile, Yang was facing off with a hand to hand combat with Arslan. Yang landed the first two punches, but when she went for a kick, Arslan dodged it and went for two punches that were blocked by Yang. The two went for strong right hand punches (at the same time) and knocked each other back. Yang quickly propelled her self forward, but she wasn't fast enough to land any hits, with Arslan taking a two flips back and used a rope dart tangling Yang's leg and kicking her off to the side with ice, forcing her to find her balance. Arslan used the opening and sent Yang flying back. Nearby, another team member (Nadir) tried to aim at Yang, but a frosty blue explosion threw him off balance and freezing his legs in a block of ice. The explosion was caused by Ruby who blew up the ice block using her sniper rifle.
