Chapter 29: Only the Best

Amity Colosseum, Day 2 of the Vytal Festival, 12:30 am

It was a beautiful day, with almost no clouds. In the center of the arena, stood Emerald and Mercury, more confident than ever, in front of them were Jacob and Evie. Jacob smirked back, but inside he felt almost as serious as his sister did, realising that it's almost too ironic the person they wanted to keep and eye on is one their opponents, the day after they decided that no less.

Port (from speaker): Emerald and Mercury of Haven, versus Jacob and Evie of Beacon.

Ruby: Show them what you got!

The holographic roulette stopped rolling and picked this round's fields (quater sections this time). It was the forest and safari on Emerald's and Mercury's side, while city ruins and hot springs rose up from behind Jacob and Evie.

Jacob: So, you must be Emerald. And the douche to your left must be your "introverted friend".

Mercury: Oh, I will enjoy this round.

Emerald: Calm yourself Mercury. He's only half wrong.

Mercury: Hey!

Emerald: Either way, you don't stand a chance.

Evie: Hmph. That's a matter of perspective really.

Port (from speaker): Three, two, one, begin!

Emerald and Mercury started to slowly back up into the tall grass behind them, but Jacob drew his revolver and fired three shots of fire dust. He missed, but it still forced Jacob's opponents to jump to the sides and burn down the front grass. Evie smirked, as her brother reloaded his weapon. Emerald and Mercury weren't surprised, but it still made them give the twins angry glares.

Jacob: Yeah. We're not falling for that.

(Battle Music!)

Emerald ran towards the tall grass, Jacob aimed his revolver at her, but as he fired, Mercury kicked him in the arm, knocking the weapon into the hot springs. Jacob tried to sucker punch him, but a chain with a blade wrapped around Jacob's hand and pulled him into the forest. Mercury smirked, right before he got kicked by Evie in the back. In response, Mercury did a flip backwards and fired a couple shots at her, followed by a kick from the side while Evie was busy dodging the projectiles. She was able raise her cane and block Mercury's attack just in time, but still got knocked back, barley catching her balance. As her opponent went for another kick (this time going downwards), Evie blocked with her cane and threw Mercury back, but as he was doing the same flip backwards, Evie hit him in the stomach with the end of her cane, sending Mercury flying back into the hot springs. When he got up, Evie made eye contact with him and gave him a smirk, as the two charged at each other. Meanwhile in forest, Emerald released Jacob from her chain, making fly into a tree, but he was quicker and grabbed a branch, doing a few spins around it before landing safely on the grass. Suddenly, he heard something from behind and spotted Emerald running from one tree to another, the same thing happened to his right, and then his leg and soon all around him. It's impossible for someone to move that fast, he already met two people with speed boosting semblances and this wasn't it.

Jacob: That's a nice trick, but I got a better one.

He took out his dagger and used his eagle vision to scan his surroundings, and he spotted her. Emerald was on top of a branch to Jacob's right and was aiming her guns at him, but before she could pull the trigger, Jacob flipped to the side and fired two darts from his phantom blade (while mid air) forcing Emerald to jump over to the other branch and by the time she fired her weapons agains, she hit nothing but air, as Jacob was knowhere to be found. Suddenly she felt a rope tie around her waist as she flew backwards, crashing into another tree. Before she could even get up, Jacob appeared in front of her with his hood on, going for a powerful punch while reinforcing his fist with his semblance. Emerald was able to dodging the attack, as Jacob's fist broke the tree in half and counter attacked with her blades, only for them to get blocked by Jacob's dagger. He jumped back, letting Emerald lean forward, as the tree pinned down her blades with its weight. Emerald wasn't done yet and tried to land a kick to Jacob's head, but he simply grabbed her leg and punched her in the stomach, sending her flying into (yet another tree) as she bounced from it like a pinball, Jacob went for the final strike and kicked Emerald to the ground, finishing her off.
