Another reason Steve should have just stayed where he was after returning all of the stones was that he had friends and everything was finally alright with the world. He finally had his best friend back after hardly having any interactions with him that weren't fighting to save the whole universe or Bucky himself. Bucky had been dusted and finally brought back for good, not able to slip out of Steve's grasp after spending three movies protecting and saving him. That could not have all been for nothing. By going back, Bucky is now left as the Winter Soldier since Steve never saved him. And would spend more years to come being tortured by HYDRA ( as he had spent 70 years before, 20 years of that spent fighting it before giving in and becoming the Winter Soldier ).
