A man lies on his deathbed, his whole body struggling to take in a single breath. Tears of pain creep from his eyes as he looks at the small crowd that had gathered beside him. His closest friends bite their lips to keep the tears from falling. The young woman who was known to be his wife, wailing at his suffering. The young man knew his time was almost up.

Behind all of the others, two familiar faces came into focus. One who's eyes shone like the sun, the other with eyes like the moon. One of the men smiled, wiping a single tear away from his golden eye. The lunar eyed man only nodded knowingly, his intricate gold and lapis necklace reflecting the dancing torchlight. Only the dying man could see them, for they were not of the mortal world, but of the supernatural one.

At last, the suffering man smiled towards the two men before giving into the end. The people gathered there wailed, tearing at their hair and clothes, for it was not only the end of a friend but the end of a king. Leaving no heirs, his brother would take the throne, and hopefully rule their kingdom of sand into prosperity.

The man's spirit walked past his friends and family and into the arms of the lunar eyed god.

"You know, you will not go to the spirit land of your ancestors. Unlike the others of your kingdom, you will be reborn." The death god explained, his voice deep like the night sky.

"Yes, I know. I do not belong there, but I do regret not being able to see the legendary scales. I do wish I could go with you Inep, but I cannot." The king bowed low to the jackal-masked god.

Inep only smiled. "We will meet again my friend." He bobbed his head in promise before disappearing into nothingness. The golden eyed god took one of the king's hands and squeezed gently.

"Are you ready?" He questioned. When the king nodded, the falcon god wrapped his large wings around them as the soul of the dead man faded into a ball of light.

The mortal crowd cried loudly for all of the kingdom to hear that their beloved Nesu was dead. None noticed as a small falcon flew out of the nearby balcony, a glowing golden sphere tucked into its talons. The bird flew above the streets it's careful eyes watching as the people wailed in the streets. It too cried as it disappeared into the rising sun of morning.
