I collapsed on the floor gasping for breath. I spent almost 2 hours of training with Anubis. Unlike the others, his power was very indirect in comparison to the other powers I obtained. It could be used to blind people, covering their eyes with darkness, but his liquid night couldn't touch people directly.
He showed me how to use it to create platforms like he used when he rescued me. While it couldn't touch other people, we could, therefore platforms were as safe as flying. While others couldn't touch the liquid night physically, magic was repelled, making a wonderful barrier against magic. It could also be used to put people to sleep, as he demonstrated when he rescued me.
It was definitely something I had to think differently about. It almost reminded me of a character from a 3D animated show, where one character could make glyphs and use them to change direction in mid-air. I tried it and was happy with the result.
Our training however reminded me that Anubis wasn't exactly a fighter. He was the weigher of hearts, a god of mummification, but not a war god in any way. His elf Bin, which meant miserable or bad, was a clawed gauntlet. While he wasn't a fighter he was quite good at martial arts. He explained that he trained in different types of fighting whenever he was bored, which explained the large muscles.
After 2 hours of magical training, he started training me physically. He had me blocking, attacking, and countering both with and without my weapon. I had always hated PE class, but mainly because my teachers were men who didn't understand what it was like to work out with two ten pound weights which hit you in the chest like a punch with every step. Anubis however worked slowly letting me catch my breath while holding one stance or another. However, no matter how easy a workout, doing it consistently for an hour will tire anyone out.
So I sat there like a limp noodle on the floor, gasping for breath and wishing for a long soak in a bubble bath. Bastet leaned over me with a smile. "Tomorrow you're coming with me someplace else for your training. It's hard to learn to talk to animals when there aren't any nearby." Her smile was far too cheerful for my current mood. My reply to her was a low groan.
Set had to carry my back home. It was strange for me to think of his place like home, but it was. I managed to make an Epsom salt bubble bath and somehow crawl into it. Set came in with a couple glasses of wine and passed me one.
"Not used to working out, huh babe?" He chuckled.
"I thought it was obvious from my fat ass." I joked back. I always joked about my gut and thighs. I had tried exercising to lose weight before but it had never made a difference. However I noticed the more power I intake, the skinnier I've become. My face looked smoother and prettier. It was strange to see.
"You're not fat Alice. You are beautiful, you always have been. Not only is your physical self beautiful but your heart is exceptional. Why do you think I fell in love with you?" I blushed, squirming under the onslaught of his complements.
"I thought you simply loved me due to Heru, to be honest." I sipped my wine, dodging his gaze. He laughed, wiping a tear from his eye.
"I was his friend, Alice, but I love you for you. Look at me, Alice." He reached over slipping his finger under my chin, forcing me to look at him. "I love you. I have never loved anyone like I love you. I want you to be mine. Once this shit with my brother and ex-wife is done, I want you to marry me. Do you hear me? Marry me." His words brought tears to my eyes.
"Yes. I'd like that, Set. I want to be at your side forever." I leaned up and kissed his, wrapping my soaked arms around him. "How did I get so lucky?" I kissed him again and again. He slipped out of his clothes and joined me in the huge tub.
