Our wedding would be in the fall. That was the first thing we decided on. We had seen pictures of our land during the fall when the trees changed colors and decided it was the perfect time. We couldn't wait for it. A call came through my cell phone and I had to get Set to answer, as I was covered in flour.

"Hello." He answered with a smile. "Um, she can't answer, she's covered in dough at the current moment. Oh, I can put her on speaker if you'd like? Yeah ok, one moment." I shot him a look asking who it was and he only gave me an unknowing look.

He placed the phone on the counter and hit the speaker button. "Sorry, how can I help you?" I spoke with a smirk.

"Hey, honey it's me." Shit, it was my Dad. I silently groaned. I didn't hate him, but I didn't particularly like him either.

"Hey, Dad, what's up? I don't get a call from you very often, is something wrong?" I never got a call from my dad unless he needed something.

"Maybe, I heard a little rumor." Oh no. "I heard you went to Egypt." Well, I hadn't told him, but it wasn't exactly a secret.

"Yeah, I did, got back about a month ago."

"Well if that's true, then the other rumor I heard must be true too. I heard you are engaged." He sounded testy.

"Yeah, dad. His name is Seth and he's already met Mom and got her approval. I left a message on your machine trying to set up a meeting, but you never called back."

All I said was true. Mom had sat him down, just him and her, and interrogated him. I sat with my Step-Dad and went through the whole 'are you sure you like him' thing. After what felt like an eternity Mom came back out with him, he looked deflated, but she approved of him. A few days later I had called Dad asking him to call me back for a meeting, he never did.

"Well, when am I going to meet him?" I sighed and looked at Set who gave me an 'I don't care' head shake. It's not like I could put this off any longer either.

"You could come over today if you'd like. I'm making a new cake recipe. I'll give you the address." I sighed.

"I know where your apartment is." He said stubbornly.

"Not living at the apartment anymore, moved out a few weeks ago. Do you have a pen and paper?" When he said he did I gave him the address and further instructions before nodding to Set to hang up. He would've known that if he paid any attention to my emails or social media.

"So that's happening." He laughed trying to lick the spoon I was still using to mix the icing with.

"Let's just hope he doesn't bring the fucking bitch. If she comes and starts shit they will not be allowed to come to the ceremony. I don't want her there, to begin with. Her family can, but not her." I grumbled. The bitch I spoke of was my Step-Mom, Ruth. She had unmedicated bipolar and was completely manipulative. She had been abusive when I was a child and made Dad distance himself from his family. It was so bad that I had to live with my real Mom to get away from her. Even thinking about her had my anxiety levels up.

She had done everything one could think of. The worst part of it all is when he believed her lies over me. I had once gone to him after he had come home from work to show him a bruise, and she said I had gotten it at school. I had lasting complications due to her, including my low self-esteem. Hell, I had tried committing suicide because of her, but never had the guts to go through with it.

"Alice, if she does come you could always show off. Your Mom was surprised when we told her you were a goddess but accepted you. Your Dad should know too, and you could scare her into submission at the same time. She wouldn't dare yell at someone who could burn her to death from the inside out." He smirked.
