THIRTY NINE

Steve drives us  into the parking lot in the battered, old car. He parks by a grey van and then we all get out. "Cap." Clint says as he exits the van beside us, "You know I wouldn't have called If I had any other choice." Steve tells him as they greet each other. "Hey man, you're doing me a favor. Besides, I owe a debt." Steve then turns to the younger girl who was with Clint. "Burns." I smile as Clint brings me in for a hug, "Barton, nice to see you." I tell him, "you know I'm kinda hurt that I didn't get a goodbye, I mean considering the amount of times I backed you up when you had your disagreements with Stark." He says making me laugh, "also what is going on with the hair." He says flicking a piece, "what? I like it." I shrug fixing where he'd messed it up. "I guess you make it work."

"Hi." I introduce myself to the new girl as Steve asks Clint about something, "you're Rosalie, Steve's friend?" I nod, "I'm Wanda." She says, "how old are you." I ask her after a second she looked really young. "I'm seventeen." My eyes widen, Jesus what was Steve doing asking a kid to fight with us. "I guess you're powerful?" She smirks slightly lifting her hands and expelling a red mist as her eyes glowed the same colour. "Holy cow, that's so cool." She grins at my praise, "you also have powers?" She asks I nod, "not as cool as you but..." I then show her a small sample of my water manipulation making her own eyes widen in awe, she touches the small blob of water floating by her and giggles.

"That man, he is your lover?" She asks me after a second, I follow her eyes and see she was looking at Bucky who was watching us with a small smile, "yes how'd you know?" She smiles, "he's not taken his eyes off you and I can see the love he has for you." My eyebrows furrow, "I'm a telepath I can see into others minds." Damn that was cool, "is he ok?" I ask glancing at him for a second our eyes meeting both of us smiling softly at each other. "No, but he will be, your love for him, it helps." I smile gratefully at her.

I make my way back to Bucky's side as another man stumbles out of the van, "What timezone is this?" He asks disoriented, "Come on. Come on." Clint urges. "Captain America." The man says awestruck as he shakes Steve's hand. "Mr. Lang." Steve replies, "It's an honor. I'm shaking your hand too long. Wow! This is awesome! Captain America." I giggle slightly at his behaviour, it was cute. I also happened to catch the mans attention, "I know you, too. You're great!" He says making me smile and give him a small wave. He turns back and feels Steve's shoulders making me laugh into my hand again. "Jeez. Ah, look, I wanna say, I know you know a lot of super people, so . . . thinks for thanking of me."

"Hey, man!" He says turning to Sam excitedly as though they knew each other, I guess this is who Sam was talking about earlier."What's up, Tic Tac?" Sam nods, "Uh, good to see you. Look, what happened last time when I . . ." Sam cuts Mr Lang off , "It was a great audition, but it'll . . . it'll never happen again." I look between them before I put it together, "oh you kicked his ass?" I ask Mr Lang who nods with a sheepish grin making me laugh as I see the look of annoyance that flickers across Sam's face, he pushes me lightly but I stumble into Bucky who wraps an arm around me as Sam grumbles under his breath.

Steve clears his throat and then shakes his head at me telling me to stop laughing before he turns back to Lang, "They tell you what we're up against?" He asks making the man shrug, "Something about some . . . psycho-assassins?" I guess that was the easy way to put it. "We're outside the law on this one. So, if you come with us, you're a wanted man." Steve tells him making me more aware of how serious the situation we were actually in. "Yeah, well, what else is new?"

"We should get moving." Bucky says after a moment, "We got a chopper lined up." Clint says before an announcement goes off. "They're evacuating the airport." Bucky tells us his arm tightening around me, I squeeze his hand to try and reassure him. "Stark." Sam murmurs, "Stark?" Mr Lang echos in confusion looking between all of us. "Suit up." Steve says before walking off.

Bucky and I were the first two to suit up, I was leaning against a car my arms around his neck as he stood in front of me. "We'll be ok." I assure him my fingers threading through his hair knowing that it helped soothe him. "If we-" I shake my head and lean forwards resting my head against his, "don't think like that." I whisper not wanting to think like that, I'd lost him so many times I don't think I could handle it again. "If something happens." He persists his own eyes closing as he struggles with whatever he's thinking. "If something happens then I want you to know that you're my everything and that loving you has been the greatest accomplishment of my life." I can't keep the tears that escape my closed eyes. "We're gonna be ok." I tell him my voice breaking, we had to be ok.

We stand like that with each other until the others join us making us stand properly, Bucky wipes my eyes and then smiles at me, "I love you." He murmured softly kissing my forehead, "I love you." I repeat before we separate, he was going with Sam and I was with Steve and Scott whilst Wanda would stay with Clint.
