The Last Gifts of the Day

With the wind, let the rain or the white, wispy snow

on the open night open our path as we go

into the old and the new, with stars all around

Let not our hearts stir as the sun goes down

Our fair, fairy friend and her pixie dream-sprite

Have come bearing gifts along a river-moon night

A willow may weep as you sleep on your pillow

But let this world keep until after we go

May Anna, May Ella and all else who may

Have come to help and sort out our long day

"Where did you go when you left us last time?"

"Was there plenty to do out in the daylight?"

"Did you have a good meal? Did you brush all your teeth?"

"Did they see your nice smile? Did you have any cheese?"

May Anna is shorter and more orderly and clean

May Ella is tall and messy, but neither are mean

"Can you guess what I brought you?" May Ella asked now.

"What about my gift?" May Anna howled.

Each of them had a present to give you

If you can stay awake, you can open them too.

"Mine is a wish box covered in stars.

It is filled with the wishes in your own heart."

"Mine is a dream box covered in blue.

The sky is the limit and I give it to you!"

The wish box is clean, and all the wishes well kept

The dream box is bigger, but it seems a bit of a mess

Each in their order is good on their own

But both have their place in a tiny heart home

May Anna so proud, she can barely speak

Reaching her lips to touch your cheek.

May Ella with tears, her heart filled with love

Her arms are open to give you a hug.

The moon on the rise and the earth wrapped up well

Dust from the clouds and from fairies' feet fell

Light spins and plays across walls and bed

Here whispers echo when words are said

today... day.. ay... Tonight... night... ight...

sing.. ing... sing... bless... blessing... light...

Dreamy... dream... me... wishes... wish... is...

I... fly... flying... wings... rising... flight...

Dear Traveler unravel the day as it leaves

Tomorrow is a wish we can plan in our dreams

Now open your wishes and float to the moon

Get some rest. Tomorrow comes soon...
