Willow in the Walls
It was a long, long time ago,
At the old house in Germany,
I met my friend named Willow,
Who looked ever so lonely.
She was a silent, sullen girl,
However thin, she was bonny,
With her skin as white as pearl.
In my room, she lived within the walls,
At times, she would move in frantic whirls,
Upon hearing footfalls in the hall.
Hide, hide, hide, she would always mutter,
And every time, it made my skin crawl.
"Invite her to dinner," said my mother.
But Willow wouldn't come down for supper.
She cried and said the soldiers will find her.
I told her they won't, and I was tougher,
But she would only stare blankly and smile.
I told her the monsters were only in her head,
But she would still cower and hide under my bed,
And she would stay there, whimpering for quite a while.
