My Best Friend Dear
He chased me through the trees
Followed me over apple filled hills
Tagged along through the mud
Climbed beside me up to the mill
Through the stables we often flew
As fast as stallions could be
Around the chicken pen for a turn
And never once did he leave me
I tried hiding from him just for sport
In creepy places all around the farm
A nasty pig pen or a smelly coop
But he found ways to join at my arm
It gave me a fright when he was gone
In the evening or on cloudy days
I'd turn in circles and jump around
Trying to catch him in the rays
But I always knew he was there
When G-ma whispered, "Night Dear."
Grandpa mumbled, "Night Sam."
My best friend Dear slept near
