Never Ever Alone
My friend is a mad little pixie in disguise
Who pretends to walk as she flies
Gliding above the shiny floor
Never once using a tall door.
To the garden she joyfully bounds
Riding on the backs of our neighbours
Hounds, beneath the sprinkler does she
Dance, never gaining a single glance.
Wearing a skirt of oak leaves
With pansy cuffs on the ends of her
Sleeves, and a tilting top hat, which
She wears for her show as an acrobat.
Bowing together as we sing in the rain
Staring through windows in vain,
We stand on the playground slide
While searching for places to hide.
As the two of us will never grow old, just
Like in the stories and tales told, others
May not see her but I always will, and
Remember how we met on a grassy hill.
