Melody’s P.V.O
“Would y’all two stop fighting?! It’s all y’all ever do. Ugh!”
I am sick of this. All day, every day that’s all my parents ever do, fight. If they hated each other so much, then why not just get a divorce? Why subject the entire street to their constant ranting. It’s embarrassing.
Everyone can see that the love has left their marriage years ago. Heck, I can’t even remember the last time they said something nice to each other. Living with them is becoming harder every day. They stopped caring about each other as well as me. It’s like they forgot that I exist, and on the off chance that they do remember, they would try and acted like parents.
How do they expect me to respect them if they behave like crappy parents? Sometime I wonder why they ever got married in the first place. How can two people who once loved each other enough to tie the knot, now can’t stand to be in the same room with each other.
I grab my coat and my house keys and head for the door. There is no way I’m staying in this house just to watch them curse each other out.
“I’m leaving, I’ll be back later. But it’s not like y’all care anyway.”
As I’m walking out the door I hear my mother shouting. “Melody Gibbs get yo black ass back in this house, it’s after midnight!”
*Bang!*
That’s the door. Like hell I’m staying in that house. I’m only 3 minutes out the door, and my crazy ass mother comes running out the door. Shouting, waking up the entire neighbourhood. Can this woman be any more embarrassing?
“I said get back in her young lady! I’m your mother, you have to listen to me.”
Ignoring her I keep on walking. I see a few of the neighbours light coming on in their windows. I curse, pulling the hood of my coat over my head. It’s not like it’s going to help. Everyone knows me as the crazy black lady’s kid anyway.
I always hear people talking and whispering about me, when the think I’m not listening. There goes the crazy Nancy’s kids. Look at what she’s wearing, isn’t that the same clothes she had on yesterday or the day before that? Why did her dad, a white man from a rich family, threw it all away for a poor black woman?
When I was younger the talks used to hurt a lot, but now I just ignore them. These people think they know me, but they don’t know shit about me or my crazy family. I must agree with them on one thing though. Why the hell did my dad, gave up all of his family money to marry my mom. They live worse than cats and dogs.
Halfway down the street and I could still here my mother shouting after me. I grab my IPod out of my pocket, unwrap my headphones and stick them into my ears. I just keep on walking. I am not too sure where I am going, but I don’t care as long as it’s far from my house.
I’m not sure how long I’ve been walking. Or how far I’ve walked. I check my watch and curse.
“Shit.”
I’ve been walking for two hours. I turn around to make the long journey back home. My headphones are still in my ears, so I didn’t know someone behind me until they touch my shoulder. Turning around, I was ready to kick a nigga’s ass. Don’t be thinking I’m helpless, just cause I’m walking by myself.
