Melody’s P.O.V
It been two weeks since the whole family show down. And yes, I’m much better thanks for asking. And no, you nosy asses, I ain’t pregnant. I’ve been to the doctor and she say it’s just stress that’s throwing my body off. Thanks god! I ain’t ready for no kid. Richie on the other hand was heartbroken. It was cute to watch him sulk.
Our relationship has been much better, drama free. It feels good to not have anything getting in the way of us being together. And it’s my birthday! Richie has been planning a surprise for me all week. He thinks he’s been keeping it a secret from me, but he ain’t. But I’m not going to spoil his surprise, I’ve been acting like I have no clue.
Oh, and for the record, I moved out of my parents’ house. I’ve been staying with Richie. He moved out of the main part of his family house and he’s now staying in the east wing. This house is so big, it will take weeks to see all of it. Anyway, I’m living with my boyfriend. Yeah, yeah I know how ratchet that sounds. I’m not even 18 yet and I’m shacked up with my boyfriend. But I ain’t give a shit what you think.
Richie and I are happy. I’m finally learning to accept than I can be happy and fall in love without ending up like my mother. However, since the incident at my parents’ house, my mom and dad has been more loving with each other. Shocking, I know!
I was there a few days ago. I needed to get a few of my shit, even though they were limited, they were still my shit. Anyway, as I was saying. I walked into my house and found my parents talking. Did you hear me? I found them talking! Talking! There was no shouting, no cussing each other out, no throwing things. Just plain old fashion talking.
For a good few minutes I thought, I done gone up into the wrong house. I mean, I ain’t never seen my parents’ just talk, like ever. Shit was creepy as hell. Although I was freaked out, I ignored them and went up to my room to pack my stuff.
It didn’t take me too long to stuff my entire life into a bag. I looked around my room, I was waiting to feel a sense of lost. Instead I felt relief. I was smiling as I walked out the room and back into the living room, where my happy go lucky parents were still just talking.
“So, I’m out. I’ll come visit y’all soon, ok?”
I didn’t have much to say to them. I was still upset with them. I just wanted to leave and never return. I headed to the door without waiting for a reply, I felt the hurt tension in the air, but I didn’t care. My whole life was on the other side of that door and I just wanted to jump right into it.
“Baby girl, I’m sorry. I ain’t never meant to hurt you, I’ve always wanted what’s best for you. Yo daddy and I should have told you, about his side of the family a long time ago. We’re happy that Oswaldo and you ain’t…”
“Richie! His name is Richie.”
I looked one last time at my parents and walked out the door, ignoring their calls.

“He’s my friend, Richie. And he yours as well, I want him here.”
I’ve been trying for the pass hour to get Richie to invite Max over for my birthday lunch. I know he has things planned for tonight, so I want to share my day with Max as well. I know you guys are pretty much on Richie’s side, but Max has been good to me. It just ain’t that easy to cut him out of my life.
Max has been there for me when I really needed a friend. He’s done things for me that was not expected of him. I don’t want to lose my best friend. My only friend. I love Richie and I’d do anything for him, but I just can’t give Max up.
“Mel, baby I love you, but I won’t have Max in my house.
My eyes widen. “Your house? Ok, maybe I should move out and give you and your house some space?
Richie, moved closer to me. He saw the frown on my face and he smiled. I narrowed my eyes at him, letting him know that I was dead serious. He started to chuckled and I turned to leave. He grabbed my hand, stopping me.
“You know I didn’t mean it like that.” His voice very seductive. “I just wanna have you to myself for one day without Max being there. Is that too much to ask for?”
I sigh softly. “No. but it’s my birthday and I’m s’posed to get whatever I want on my birthday.” I pouted my lips for the first time in my life.
Richie, laughed. “Damn, but your sexy ass drives a hard bargain.”
He leaned down and kissed my still pouted lips. I pouted even harder and he chuckled.
“Ok, fine. But don’t expected me to be nice to his dumb ass.
I’m so happy, I’m jumping and clapping like a white girl. I stopped and frowned at myself, making Richie laugh.
“I promise you’re ain’t gonna regret this. I’ll even ask Max to bring along a friend.

The way how things turned out I should have just leave well enough alone.
*Ding*
That’s the doorbell. And let me tell y’all, it ain’t no cheap ass doorbell. No sir. It’s one of those fancy ass one that probably cost as much as yo car. Yes, you heard me right, I said it can buy that old, beat up, piece of junk you have. Don’t be looking so surprised, you know that piece crap has died on yo ass mo time than you can count.
I was in the kitchen cooking when the bell rung. I know you must be saying, girl what does yo black ass know about cooking for some white people. And I’ll have to tell you, I ain’t no shit about cooking white folk’s food, that why they ass gonna be eating some soul food. Imma show them what real food is.
“Richie! Baby you got that?!”
I shouted from the kitchen. I heard no reply, so I washed my hands and answered the door on the third ring. Just as I was bout opening the door I saw Richie descending the stairs. I looked at his black slacks and polo shirt and smirked. White boy much.
I turned back to the door and opened it. My smile bright on my face. I see Max and I smile brighter, only Max is not alone. He brought a stunning brunette with him. And y’all ain’t gonna believe me when I tell y’all that this white girl put a lot of sistas to shame in the body department. I mean, this girl had me going, damn!
“Max, you made it, and you brought a friend.”
I hugged Max, and moved aside so that he and his friend can enter.
“Hey Melo, I ain’t gonna miss your special day for the world.”
He turned to his companion, ready to introduce her. However, he never got the chance because as soon as this heffa saw Richie, she done threw herself into him arms and kissed him full on the lips. What the… oh, hello no! Some shit’s bout to go down if this playboy bunny outcast don’t get her hand off of my man.
“Oswaldo sweetie, I’ve missed you so much. I’ve come back. I’m back for you baby.”
I’m so pissed of now, I’m seeing purple. Yes you heard me. I said purple! Bitch done got me mad. She pouted her lip at my soon to be ex-boyfriend, if he don’t snap the hell out of whatever trance he’s in and shove a bitch. I saw her pout and I frown. That shit is not cute.
Richie just looked at her like he a dumb ass. I ain’t taking no mo of this shit. I cleared my throat, reminding everyone in the room that I was still there. Miss bunny, turned and glared at me scornfully. I looked from Max to her than to Richie. I narrowed my eyes at Richie.
“If you don’t tell me what the hell that was all about, yo white ass bout to be single in, 5 4 3 2…”
“Mel, wait! This is Lisa Jones.” Richie cut me off.
My eyes narrowed even more. “And who the hell is Lisa Jones, Richie?”
“She’s my e…”
“I’m his girlfriend. Who the hell are you?”
