An hour had passed, and no sign of Isaac. Things were looking good. Hadiya and I were chatting in the lounge room, sober, as Pippa and Birdie played beer pong with Cooper watching, a red solo cup in his hand.
"I think Birdie wants to bone your brother." She giggled.
"Honestly, I think he might be into that." I admitted. Birdie and Cooper looked good together. He's a jock, she's a hippie. Cute in an unconventional couple kind of way.We watched as Pippa won and Cooper consoled Birdie with a side hug she seemed to enjoy very much. They all headed back to us, kicking people out of the seats beside us.
Cooper sat next me and hooked an arm around my back. I leant into his shoulder, wariness overtaking my body. Being sober made time go slower.
A voice cleared from the doorway, I turned to spot Isaac standing there. He was in his sherpa lined denim jacket, the one he leant me when he walked me home from Marley's apartment.
My instinct when his eyes met mine, was to dart away from Cooper, but I stayed put. Isaac and I weren't dating or anything, I shouldn't feel guilty for lying on Cooper's shoulder. Besides, it's not exactly a provocative situation.
Still, Isaac's jaw tightened as his gaze rested on me. "Who's this?" He grumbled towards Pippa. She rolled her eyes at him.
"This is Hadiya and Birdie."
"Him." He pointed to Cooper. Was he trying to start drama? He didn't need to be rude to Cooper just because he didn't like me.
Cooper's hand reached out to grab my knee protectively, ever so slightly pulling me closer to him.
"Cooper," I introduced indifferently. "Meet Isaac. Isaac, this is Cooper."
"Alright." He muttered, his glare stony and still focused on Cooper. His gaze turned to me, for only a second, before leaving out the back door. Outside, everyone was dancing to music.
I didn't want to watch in the first place, then I couldn't seem to turn away. My eyes remained glued to Isaac as he grabbed a girl in a hot pink dress by the wrist and pulled her towards him, meeting her lips with his.
"Amity." I heard murmurs from beside me, but remained staring at the disgusting scene before me. "AMITY!" Cooper called out louder, snapping me out of my trance."Huh?"
"Are you okay?" He seemed almost, angry at me? No, he wouldn't be. Just confused.
"Yeah, I just..." How do I explain? I want nothing to do with Isaac but also want to punch a wall when I see him kiss another girl. "I don't like that guy."
"That makes two of us." He joked.
A blonde boy with braces came over to the living room with a bottle of vodka in one hand, tequila in the other. "Shots?!" He called out to all of us. My friends all turned it down, but I had other plans.
"Thank you!" I called out as I grabbed the vodka out of his hands. I screwed off the lid and took a shot that was more of a swig. I choked down the acid then grabbed the tequila, taking a swig of that too."Christ, Ames!" Cooper cried. "Are you trying to die?"
"If I have to be here, I'm going to have a good time." I reasoned, leaving the room to find the keg, completely forgetting that I told Cooper I wasn't drinking tonight.
