The cold air filled my lungs and the snow caused my feet to drag slightly as I ran home. Once I had heard the screams of my mother while I  made my way up the hill from a long day of working in the village below us to make money for the three of us. My heart in my stomach as I tried to make it up there as quick as I could. 'They could be in danger...Or he could be back' I thought as I only ran faster tears filling my vision

I leaned down I gripped the rock I saw nearly tripping when I did. I glanced at the rock I had in my hand as I ran to the very top of the hill, it was late at night and I was exhausted but I kept going only to freeze in terror when I saw the rabid demon approaching my mother and two younger sisters, the eldest being 6 and the youngest being around the age of two.      

I tried to get a closer look and figure out how to save them, how I could strategize a plan to save them.  Soon I felt my entire body freeze up causing me to come to a shock, I felt my breathing speed up 'No..How did he find us..' I thought to myself.  

That was when I realized who the demon was, it was my father... 'How could a former hashira  filled with so much pride allow himself to become the exact thing that he swore to defeat?' I thought before I had looked over to my bruised mother whom had fear filled eyes and was holding my siblings like her life depended on it, which it did. 

I was terrified, the fear building up in my lungs made it hard to breath. When I looked over at my mother and two sisters, I saw the fear in their eyes. Realizing  I couldn't be scraped right now I had to be brave for not only myself but for them as well. I had to be brave enough for them all if we are gonna get away from him again. This time he was even more dangerous than before

While I hated the thought, I managed  to remember the training my father forced me to endure and put it to use as I threw the rock and ducked down rolling over to less the blow when he swiped his claws aiming to kill me with one hit, he probably would have achieved his goal from the look of the tree behind me which was now rolling down the hill. I quickly got up, grabbing his sword off the ground and pointed it at him 'he must've dropped it earlier' 

"You little bitch! I'll kill you for that!" I heard the old man call out as I started to shiver from the cold weather and fear "Look at you! You're just as pathetic as your mother over there! I'll kill you both and use your sister's bones as my tooth picks!'' 

I was breathing heavily now and I could barely focus on my movements so instead of striking with the sword I picked up the broken chair leg and threw it at his head hitting him right between his eyes and knocking him off focus, I then grabbed my mothers hand and picked up my other sister who was terrified.     

I started to run with them as far as I could until we meet an edge, I didn't know what to do at that point but when I heard the grunting and growling from a distance I panicked so I jumped "(Y/N)! What on earth are you doing!?" I heard my mother screech as we fell onto a pile of snow that broke our fall 

" Are you all okay!?" I asked in which the two responded with a yes but (B/S/N) was crying, she must've gotten hurt or scared during the fall. I looked around "We should keep going, he could be around anytime soon'' I said as I picked up (S/N) and started to run again. Unfortunately he was faster than we thought now and got a grip on my mother's leg, this caused he to trip and now he had dragged her away, she handed me (B/S/N) and told me to run.

 "Mom!" I called as I held (S/N) and (B/S/N)  close to me, still I reached out to grab her hand and bring her to me. I didn't wanna lose her.  "RUN! TAKE CARE OF YOUR SISTERS FOR ME! PROTECT THEM!" I froze ' protect them' that's what went through my mind, that was what repeated constantly in my brain. I looked down tears falling onto the ground 'I can't..I can't lose her again' .

"I love you..(Y/N) don't forget that..." Those were her final words before she left us. into the mist I only heard her screams and the sound of her skin ripping.. I took a step back feeling tears swell up in my eyes as I turned around and began to run with my two siblings. 

' I love you too mother, I'm sorry I could not protect you from my father but I won't make the same mistakes with these two'  I thought to myself as warm tears rolled down my face, soon we came to a dead end and by now my father was catching up to us "(Y/N)-nee/nii! What do we do!? I'm scared!" I heard my sister call.

 'protect them' that was the thought that ran through my mind as I put them down ''Go hide and don't come out until I let you know it's safe" I said my voice serious and holding no ounce of hesitation as I spoke, "but what about you!?" I heard her yell but I looked over at her , my (E/C) eyes staring into hers. 

Soon she ran off with our baby sister, I slowly turned over to my father and pointed his sword at him, I looked at him with an icy-cold glare and if looks could kill. I wouldn't even have to lift a finger for him to turn into dust. 

"Trying to play hero hm!? You're just gonna die like your pathetic mother" he said as he kicked a bloody bone over to me making my blood boil as my eyes went wide 'Mom...no..' I thought as tears welled up in my eyes. "I'm gonna make you suffer, for all the abuse you put us through, the pain you caused mother, and what you've done to us all those years we've been with you." I spat venom in my voice as I gripped the sword with both hands.

My father charged at me teeth barred and claws out "SHUT UP YOU DAMNED BRAT!!!" I closed my eyes and held the sword tight as I twisted my foot towards him while he attacked, leaning my arms back and just as I heard the wind from when he had jumped into the air, I ducked down ro avoid it I swung the sword feeling and hearing the skin on his neck rip under the blade as I tumbled forward. Finally opening my eyes I watched as his head slowly fell to the ground

Watching his head roll in the cold snow, his eyes wide in disbelief he began to curse at me "No...NO! USELESS! USELESS! USELESS! YOU ARE USELESS! I'M SUPPOSED TO BE BETTER!  I WAS SUPPOSED TO WIN!! PATHETIC! I SHOULD'VE KILLED YOU ALL THOSE YEARS AGO! I'LL KILL THOSE TWO BRATS! AND IF I DON'T THEN SOMEONE ELSE WILL!" turning to face him I spoke up "You always hated losing..reacting so poorly is the most pathetic thing anyone could do"

I turned my back and just listened to him scream as my feelings slowly went numb and one single thought repeated "Protect Them"  I  glanced back and watched him dissolve as the sun slowly came up. 

Once he was gone I called out for my sister to come to me "(S/N) bring (S/B/N) its safe now. we need to find a way back up so we can grab whatever we can find at the house" I said softly as I gently picked them up and started walking

 "(Y/N)-nee/nii what do we do now?" I heard (S/N) ask, the question made me pause and I pondered a bit but I finally answered after thinking about it. 

"I'll protect you two, and become a demon slayer to avenge our mother, and everyone else we've lost in the past"
