The day of the dance, Eva felt her heart banging around in her chest. Her mother fussed between her and Amber.

Eva's mom talked to Amber's in convincing her to let her skip school with Eva. Evangeline thought it was such an absurd thing to do for a silly dance that would start later in the evening, but her mother insisted.

Three hours into the preparations, Eva only has her nails done, her hair washed and legs shaven.

"You girls are going to be so cute." Her mother squealed for the sixth time in the last hour.

Eva ignored her and took another bite of her slice of pizza.

"Is your mom always like this?" Amber whispered.

Eva rolled her eyes. "Not until recently. I don't know what's gotten into her."

"I think it's nice. My mom is like that too sometimes."

Eva shrugged.

"Thank you for this," Amber said softly.

Eva still couldn't understand why such a simple thing as inviting Amber to hang out with her stirred such gratitude. But then she realized so much has changed. She's not the same person she was.

"Thank you for talking to me. It's nice to have a girl friend for once."

Of course she had been friends with Abigail, but it was strictly a school relationship. They hadn't talked in ages since the blog incident.

Amber beamed.

"Hurry up and finish you guys! We still have work to do!"

Eva groaned. "Mom!"

"Hey! Let me have this moment! Can you even imagine what the extensive stuff we'll be doing for prom?" She shouted and then mumbled more about it to herself.

Eva slid her phone closer to her and texted George.

To George:

My mother will be the death of me >.<

It didn't take long for him to respond to her.

To Eva:

You wouldn't be exaggerating would you? I missed you at school today.

To George:

I missed you too. And no. She's on a rant about prom...I'm going to die.

To Eva:

Isn't that like next year practically?

To George:

Proves that I'm not exaggerating.

To Eva:

I guess you're right.

Eva smirked.

"Evangeline Marie, come upstairs with Amber so you guys can finish getting ready!" Her mother called.

To George:

Sigh! My mother calls. See you later?

To Eva:

Of course. Later, gorgeous.

Eva blushed as she sat her phone aside and led Amber back upstairs.

At least her mother let them eat.

THE DOORBELL RANG and Evangeline's nervous ticks picked up again. She rubbed her hands against her dress.
