The snow sparkled like crystals in the soft morning sun. I tucked my numb hands into my large coat as I tried to pay attention to my mother. She was talking about some stupid engagement, that I would have to remember to get out of tomorrow. Normally I love the winter, freezing cold or not, but this conversation made it unbearable.

"Can we do this when we get inside" I grumbled watching our castle appear over the horizon. I have never wanted to get out of a conversation so much. My horse sped up as if she was agreeing with me.

My mother sighed, speeding up her own steed. "Hajime once we get inside you'll disappear into your room or with those guards of yours. We won't see you until supper."

"But you're telling me something I care so much about." My voice was practically dripping with sarcasm.

"Hajime!" She warned. The Queen was a nice person, who was genuinely caring, but whenever she used that tone, and she rarely ever did, I knew that it wasn't a request but an order. I only nodded in response.

By the time the stable boys took our horses I couldn't feel my face. I followed my mother through the halls as she led me to the library. The guards bowed to us as we passed. Gosh I hated it all. The giant palace, the engagements, the stone faced guards that have accepted that they were worse than them. I sighed. They had actual skills that they could use anywhere. And me? I practiced with them every chance that I could, but I would never be on their level. I sighed again as two more guards opened a door for us.

"Hajime your sighing a lot, is everything all right?"

I nodded, taking in the room we entered. Every time I walk into the library my breath is taken away without fail. My mother took a seat on a couch patting the spot next to her while I sat on a chair across from her. She smiled and waved to a librarian that was organizing some books on a nearby shelf. Taking this opportunity to look around. I scanned the dozens of shelves in this room. It was truly an impressive thing. Each shelf was dusted and polished often, but you could still see the cracks and worn away bits from over the years.

My mother cleared her throat, earning my attention. She held up a book and so I could see the cover. The book was white with navy blue lettering. It said The History Of (IDK right now it's going to be the name of their middle school) Kitagawa.

I scowled. She was actually serious about this whole engagement thing. She held it out to me. "Memorize it. They come the day after tomorrow."

"Mom I'm not getting engaged to some arrogant jerk!"

"We need this alliance Hajime. Since we are the bigger of the two they've agreed to merge with making our capital of both our countries, but the support we'll get from them will help us in every possible way."

"But Mom I-"

"Please Hajime this would help so many people. People in both our country and theirs."

Her voice echoed around my head. "Mom why won't you understand that I don't want to be married. At least not yet. I'm only eighteen." My voice seemed distant. I wasn't even sure that I had said it. My dark eyes met hers as my mind tried to process the new information. Her mouth opened the moment I stood up. She didn't say a word. I snatched the book from her hand and stomped out of the room.

How did you like the first part? I hope it wasn't TOO terrible. I would appreciate any tips or suggestions if you have any. Also what color are Iwa's eyes? I honestly have no idea...I shoulda looked that up.

Alright byeeee ;)
