The next morning, Castien and Sebastian arrived to Aistel's parent's home in Queens, bright and early. Sebastian decided to be a little earlier to make sure Aistel and Irene were awake and dressed.
Sebastian thought it was a bad idea, however, to show up nearly an hour early. "Dear Gaia, protect us." He said in Fae.
Castien rolled his eyes and knocked on the door to the basement. He waited a few seconds before knocking again. They were outside for about 5 minutes when the door, slowly creaked open. "Who... is... it?" Said a slow and deep voice. The door was slightly open, however the house was pitch black. All the brothers could see were large, glowing purple eyes staring back at them.
Sebastian took a step back while Castien took one forward. He leaned forward, causing the eyes to back up. "Ah, you must be the youngest. Enor. I'm Castien. Is your big sister and her friend awake. I need to... Hey wait!" Castien shouted as all the darkness, along with the eyes, seemed to flow up the stairs.
"Ignore him. He's weird towards strangers." Aistel said, rubbing her eyes.
Castien realized she was already dressed. "Ah, I see you got up early to get dressed. Good. Where is Irene?" He asked.
"She is also ready. She woke me up, so thank her. I would still be asleep." Aistel said with a shrug.
Irene walked up to the door with a smile on her face. "Since ya'll don't know her, let me fill you in. Always, ALWAYS tell her it's an hour or two earlier. She has a hard time being on time to anywhere. It just makes it easier. Anyway, come in." Irene said moving Aistel out of the way.
The brothers stepped into the house and sat down on the couch in the tiny basement living room. They sat quietly and watched the girls go back in the room.
Aistel walked out with two suitcases and dropped them at Castien's feet. "Carry those." She said coldly to him.
Castien wanted to protest but decided it wasn't worth it. He tapped Sebastian, "Bring those to the car and start it." He told him.
Sebastian nodded and grabbed the suitcase. Irene was holding a carry and followed Sebastian. "Aisti, turn off everything and then lock up. Don't fuss, just do it." She said.
Aistel plopped down onto the couch next to Castien. Aistel was studying him. She wasn't sure what it was about him, but he smelled sweet like fruit. She absentmindedly brushed his hair out of his face. This action, while harmless in her eyes, caused a wave of excitement in Castien. He reached for her hand to take it away from him. He was confused as to why she made him feel this way.
Castien turned from her. "So there are some rules for humans who are visiting the Fae Council Castle. 1, you are not allowed in areas that have purple over the doorways. Those are where Elves reside. They rank rather high in Fae society. 2, Do not use your power. This is a must follow rule. They can and will throw you in jail for life. They've done it before. And the final rule, do not try to stay. Fae are cunning tricksters. Mainly of my kind enjoy toying with humans. Don't become a toy. Got that, Aistel?" Castien said, turning back to face her.
Castien blushed as he felt her eyes on him again. Why does she keep staring at me? Does she enjoy watching me sweat? Is this fun to watch? A Fae captain flustered by a gyfted. I haven't even known her long. He thought.
Aisti rolled her eyes. He is strange. His scent has changed since we first met. I worry about this change. I don't need another Dante situation. Males are useless when they follow their sexual urges instead of their logical thoughts. She thought while coiling a lock of hair around her finger.
Castien stood up and began to turn off lights. "Alright let's get going." He said to Aistel.
She stood up and grabbed her shoulder bag, then walked towards her bedroom. She finished turning off everything and then locked up.
Aisti and Castien headed to the airport with Irene. Sebastian had decided to go later in the day since he had business to attend to. The car ride was rather boring. None of them were talking. In fact, Irene had dozed off in the back seat. Castien was however very uncomfortable. Twice he had placed his right hand on Aisti's bare right thigh. Whether by accident or on purpose, he wasn't too sure. Why oh why did she have to wear shorts... It makes her legs look.... No. I mustn't. He was having great difficulty focusing on the road in front of him.
Aisti was also having a hard time focusing. She had a dream the night before. She rarely dreamed. This dream was dark and fuzzy. She couldn't make out sounds or faces, but she could tell it was someone she knew. Aisti hadn't given Castien much thought. Not that he didn't have her interest. She just wasn't focused on anyone at the moment.
As Aisti was thinking, she felt a warm light touch on her thigh. It was Castien's hand. Whether he meant it out not, didn't matter to her. Her legs were cold, so she welcomed his touch. She placed her hand on his.
"Sorry. Sorry. I didn't mean to do that. What is wrong with me?" He said.
Aisti pushed his hand off her thigh. She looked at Castien with worry. "I'm sorry if my presence is causing you any discomfort. I tend to do that to non-humans. I wish I knew why. Most non-humans can't wait to get away from me. I know your entire being must be screaming at you to run."
"I don't want to run away. If I did, I could fight that. That isn't the case for me, though. I wish I could explain it better and have a better understanding of what I feel. In all my years.... I've never felt like this before."
"That I can understand. I have dealt with not understand what I was going through, as well as not understanding others. Like emotions are so strange to me. I long to understand them." Aistel said staring out of the window.
"Trust me, many of us would long to not deal with them for one day. However, I can understand longing to feel what everyone else, feels."
"I guess." She answered.
They had finally boarded the plane and had taken their seats in first class. They were seated next to each other. Aistel was next to a window. Castien had positioned himself to be able to look at Aisti with no issues. He smiled at Aisti as she looked at him.
"Why do you do that?"
"Huh?" Castien was surprised to hear her ask him this. He wasn't sure what it was he always did. "What did I do?" he asked, worried for her answer.
"That.... Smile you give me. Tons was the first guy to every smile at me like that. At least, he was the first one I noticed. Why do you do that? Smile so.... Kindly at me. Like you care about me." She said as she wrapped herself in a fleece blanket Castien had brought for her at the duty free.
Castien turned and stared at the overhead lights. He wasn't sure how to explain it. His heart racing, his heavy breathing. She had brushed up against him by accident and his heart started beating like crazy again. The sight of her, her hair and her lips made his heart beat fast. He liked it, but it worried him.
As he was about to answer, he realized it was weird to have developed such feelings within a few days. He decided to distance himself slightly. "I'm heading to the bathroom. I'll be right back." Aistel waved him off and turned to stare out of the window.
Once he was done hiding, he went back to his seat. Aisti had passed out in her seat, covered in her fleece blanket. Why am I like this? We literally just met. Yet my heart is racing as if I had known her for a long time and slowly fell for her. No. This felt more like a love once lost and now remembered. Though, that makes no sense. I have never been in love. So Why? Why her? He thought to himself.
Castien was overthinking things, and he knew that. It didn't stop him, however. It did worry him, though. He was worried about what she said earlier. As he drifted off to sleep for the ten-hour plane ride, he felt a strange feeling. A worrying feeling.
