Chapter Fifteen: Henry's place

Jane's P.O.V

        It's been two weeks since Henry brought me to his apartment. Two weeks since I last seen my family. Two weeks since he told me who he was. 

        ~Two weeks earlier~

        Henry opens the door to his apartment and I walk inside. Henry takes my backpack and puts it in his room. I sit on the couch and Henry sits next to me. 

        "Are you going to tell me why I'm here?" I ask him. 

        He doesn't say anything for a while and then he sighs. "My family, are apart of this underground agency called Zenus. They try and find people like you and see how and where the powers come from."

        "Okay?" I say.

        "They sent me undercover to see if you were one of thise people."

        "What are you saying?" I ask.

        "Look at my memories," is all he says.

        I look at him in the eye and search through his memories. I see it all. I see everything up until the recent stuff. When I'm done I gasp for air and look at anything but Henry. This isn't happening. This can't be. 

        "Jane," Henry says softly. "I'm so sorry."

        "Just leave me alone."

        ~Present~

        I sit on the couch, waiting for him to get back. He's been going back to Zenus everyday so no one gets suspicious. He told me two days ago that they think I left town so they're widening the search. Henry was right though. Nobody has come here looking for me. As soon as the clock says, 6:30 the door opens and Henry walks into the apartment. He walks into the kichen and comes into the living room with two glasses of water. 

        He hands me one of the glasses and I take slow sips. He sits beside me and I scoot over making the gap even bigger. He looks at the space between us and sighs. "Please Jane. You've been here two weeks I told you I'm sorry, I tried to make it better but you won't let me. Please just talk to me."

        "I'm not mad because you brought me here or what you did," I tell him. 

        "Then what is it?"

        "I'm mad that you lied to me."

        He doesn't say anything for a while. "I had to. You know that. I'm doing everything I can to help you, your dad, and Will."

        I don't say anything. I don't want to be here, I want to see Dad and Will. Sophia and Oliver are probably wondering what the hell happened to us, and Austin might be searching for us. "What about my friends?"

        "They're all fine."

        "Good. Now I'm going to go and take a shower."

        He nods and I get off the couch, I grab some pajamas and a towel and enter the bathroom. I turn on the warm water and get in. I stand under the water for at least half an hour before Henr knocks on the door. "Jane are you okay?"

        "Yeah," I say and turn off the water. I get out and dry myself off. As I'm putting on my clothes I can't remember my sixth birthday party. Actually I can't remember anything up until I was 14. Why can't I remember anything? 

        When I open the door I see Henry sitting on the bed, head in his hands. I put my dirty clothes in a basket and sit behind him on the bed. I put my head on his back and close my eyes. We sit like that for a long time. Henry breaks the silence. 

        "Do you still love him?" 

        Him? Austin? It takes me a moment to think it over before I speak. "Yes. But I don't think I love him." 

        "What's that supposed to mean?" He asks turning to face me.

        "It means that me and Austin were the past. I don't love him the same way as I used to."

        He doesn't speak, then before I can react he leans in and kisses me. I kiss him back without hesitation. I don't think of anything else. I only think of here and now. 

        When he pulls away I look him in the eyes. I don't have to read his mind to know what he's thinking. 

        "I love you." When he says those words my heart skips a beat. I heard him say those words before when I had the seizure. But hearing it now is different. 

        I'm about to say it back when the phone rings. He swears and goes to answer it. A minute later he returns. "I have to go back to work. I'll be home soon."

        I nod and before he leaves he kisses my forehead. 

        I hear the front door close and I lay on the bed. 

        I fall asleep.
