6. A New Year

"It's a new year!"

"A whole new chapter"

"It's a new begining"

"C'mon and cheer!"

How can I?

I feel nothing but fear.

At the back of my mind,

Inside my head,

In my sleep,

They're still here.

Never to be vanquished,

Seems really hopeless,

My sanityㅡfoggy and unclear.

It's only another year,

Gone like the wind,

Nothing different,

Nothing extraordinary,

Soonㅡanother will appear.

They hadn't fade,

Hadn't left,

They stayed where they are,

Inside my head,

Torturing me,

Slowly killing me,

They didn't disappear,

Didn't vanish,

My demonsㅡwill always stay near.

How can I celebrate?

Every time I turn around,

There is a menacing sneer.

People taunt,

Words hurt,

My heart is being stabbed repeatedly with a spear.

My lungs were choking,

Begging for mercy,

To be left undead,

Oxygen has been sucked out of my atmosphere.

The evilness and wickedness of reality is not to be ignored,

Too hard to forget,

They lurk in the shadows,

Plotting on murdering,

They persuaded,

They seduced,

Whispered in my ear,

Turned the horrible truth to beautiful lies,

Then they sucked the liveliness out of me,

My weak soul perished,

And they loved seeing me in tears.

I was left alone to fight,

I tried with all of my might,

Yet I was vulnerable,

A new year wouldn't change a thing,

I was still stuck,

With the selfsame monsters,

In this vicious circle,

In a war,

I couldn't possibly come out of alive,

Physically, mentally, and emotionly covered in bloody smears.

"It's a new year"

"Let's start fresh"

"Do something different"

"Why aren't you happy, dear?"

I didn't listen,

They were all lies,

Foolish fantasies,

Their voices came in and came out.

I wouldn't hear,

I wasn't naïve,

I had a sense of reality,

The real world,

They should too,

Because it's truly something to fear.
