The first thing he noticed was his head throbbing. He was hungover, that much he realized pretty soon. The next thing was the pleasant smell of a coconut shampoo and the light weight of a head on his chest. He opened his eyes just a bit. It took him a moment to realize what was going on, but then the events from last night came back to him and he understood. Elena and him had been talking and drinking all evening. At some point, when she told him how Katherine once had Nadia brought over to NOLA and had not bothered to tell Elena, he had noticed how she was feeling sad about seeing her niece so rarely. Her expression somehow made him put his arm around her and she had leaned into him.

Their situation had only gotten closer since then. Elijah, feeling warm, had been comfortable enough to take off his suit jacket and Elena had pulled up her legs onto the couch, her head more firmly resting against his soulder.

Now he realized they must have fallen asleep on her couch eventually. Elena laid next to him, snuggled up to him with her head on his chest and his arm around her waist. Sunlight was falling through a window in the living room and made warm reflections appear in Elena's hair. Elijah hesitated for a second. Then he ran his fingers through her hair, loving how silky it felt, how pleasant it smelled and how it was warm now, thanks to the sun shining on it.

Elena felt slightly disturbed in her wonderfully comfortable sleep

Elena felt slightly disturbed in her wonderfully comfortable sleep. Without waking up, she mumbled something and snuggled closer into Elijah's chest. He felt a strong surge of warm tenderness running through his body when she did that.

However, he knew they could not stay like this forever. And she might not be comfortable with this when she would wake up. So he gently shook her shoulder with his hand. First, she just mumbled again not wanting to wake up yet, but eventually, she did. And when she saw Elijah's face in front of her's, she jumped, suddely very awake.

"Oh my god, did we sleep here? Like- this?" she carefully asked.

He smiled a bit at her reaction. "Yes, I'm afraid so. My sincere apologies for the inconvenience. This normally does not happen, I assure you." he said.

"No, I didn't think it did. I mean, I'm sure it doesn't-" she flustered a little. Then she took a deep breath, steadying herself and said: "Alright, I guess that's that. Would you like some coffee? And, uh, maybe some aspirin?" It seemed like the most logical thing in this situation, considering the early hour and the headache she was sure wasn't just plaguing her. Also, anything to avoid too much awkwardness!

He nodded slightly and rubbed with his hand over his face. A cup of coffee would help him with his hangover. After that, he would drive hime again, contemplate what he had learned about his ex the night before and figure out what to do next.

Later that day, elsewhere

Caroline entered a building filled with offices and a few art studios. She had thought about things and saw one way to find out the truth. Tyler's work schedule hung in their apartment on the wall. It said, his working hours for today were ending now. So, she decided that this time she would come to his working place directly and see for herself whether or not he had to work late.
