“And here comes Ryan Black and his sister, Macy!”
I was surprised at how long it'd been since I've been to an awards show.
I leaned over to Ryan and whispered, “Are you even nominated for anything?”
He made a face and shrugged, making me laugh. Neither of us really cared about big shows and awards. Ryan only did it for the fans, and I was just bored on a Friday night.
“Hey, Ryan!” A man holding a microphone called, walking over to us and smiling.
“Hey, Marcus.” Ryan greeted him, just as friendly.
“So, how does it feel to be nominated for four awards?” The man, Marcus, asked Ryan, who shot me a quick, joking smile that said “Well, there's your answer.”
“Amazing! It never gets old, you know? It's the same feeling as it was five years ago.” Ryan beamed. He's so good at this, making everyone believe it means something to him to win an award that's just gonna end up on the shelf with the rest of the meaningless awards. I make him sound selfish and ungrateful, but, like I said, Ryan couldn't care less about awards. His fans are all that matters to him. That's the single most important fact that anyone could know about him.
“And what about you, Macy?” Marcus looked down at me.
“What about me?” I laughed, giving him a confused look.
“What does it feel like, being the sister of the most famous man in the world?” He asked.
“Oh, well...” I started, looking up at Ryan, who gave me a sweet smile. “I mean, you all call him the most famous man in the world, but, to me, he's the same Ryan as he was ten years ago, when we were in school together and I'd go to him just about every recess when the other girls wouldn't let me in the sandbox. And, like, I don't like calling him the most famous man in the world. He's still a kid to me. A 22 year old, oversized kid.”
“I see,” Said Marcus, looking back at Ryan. “And what do you think of that?”
“I think my sister just called me fat.” He joked, prodding me in the side with his elbow.
“Yes, well, I'll let you two get to the show, have fun tonight!”
“You too, Marcus.” Ryan waved over his shoulder as we walked away. “And nice seeing you again!”
“How do you remember all the names?” I asked in bewilderment.
“I don't,” he raised an eyebrow at me, “Marcus is just my favourite.”
We made it to the main lobby and I stood on my toes to look around. When I realized i was at least a half a foot shorter than almost everyone here, I pulled a lounge chair over and jumped onto it.
There! I leaped off the chair at the sight of the mess of blonde hair and turned to Ryan. “Stay here, I'll be right back!” Then i turned and shoved my way through the crowd.
“Cody!” I called, wrapping my arms around his back and burying my face into his jacket.
“Wha? Oh, Macy. Hi.” He said, quite enthusiastically if I do say so myself. (I guess I should say I'm being extremely sarcastic, because you can't exactly tell through text.)
“Happy birthday!” I let go of him and smiled.
His annoyed frown turned into a sad one. “My birthday was 8 months ago.”
“I know, and I'm sorry I missed it. So, i bought you a present!”
He ran a hand through his hair and sighed. “I don't-”
