Chapter 2 - Into the Woods

I opened my eyes, but my vision was rather blurred through the right. It was like looking through fogged up glass and my right eye continued to pulse like it had a heartbeat. My senses started to come back to me, and I tried to sit up. As soon as I moved, my head felt like it just exploded. As for my eye I didn't know how black it was or how bad it looked, but I figured it must've looked deformed from what it should look like.

As much as I wanted to be a lazy sloth and do nothing I sat up, ignoring the imaginary stabbing knives in my head. I wondered why that was as I lightly pressed two fingers on my temple. I took them away and some blood trickled from the tips. Must've been from falling at school, I figured. I looked around, and all I could see was grass. The hills inclined like waves of an ocean.

However after looking in a more specific direction, I found trees. I got up weakly and began a long, staggering walk toward the forestry. I felt like I was drunk or something.

I was at the foot of the trees finally, and then all of my energy deserted me. I leaned against a big tree, and looked straight down the never ending field of plants. I took a deep breath, and started walking through.

All I have to do is go straight ahead, no distractions.

I kept on going straight... Or, so it felt like it. But I soon found I was back where I started. I sighed in defeat. At that point in time my mind had changed; These trees will be the death of me instead.

I gave up before my second attempt even began, and I cried for help. "Someone help me, please! I need help!"

Thus began attempt number 2. I tried hard to go straight and it seemed like it had finally worked as I had hoped it would. I soon came across a small area that was about the size of my room, in the middle of this forest. There were no trees, but 3 different paths to take.

I was always so bad at choosing the right path in my games. I always died...

"I need help! Someone? Anyone?"

I refused to choose any path, as it could potentially lead to my demise. A certain direction was always bad and I always had to learn that the hard way.

I lowered myself to the bottom of the tree I was leaning on, and sat down. With a bloody head injury - literally - and a bruised, possibly damaged eye like mine, I know I walked a lot more than I should have.

I must've worn myself out from the inside, because I was getting tired, and it looked like the sky was turning to night. But it seemed to change time of day rather fast. I started closing my eyes, getting ready for a night sleep.

But then I realised it wasn't night time. It was me who was blacking out.

I widened my eyes instantly, terrified of what could happen to me in the middle of nowhere when I'm unconscious. I let my arms dangle helplessly beside me, laid against the tree.

Well, maybe a small nap wouldn't hurt. My head does kill, after all. I can't go on like this.

With that, I let myself close my eyes for only a nap, but then I felt myself hit the ground on my side. I felt paralysed and had no strength to support myself.

Before I blacked out, I saw a blurred figure running to me. No, 2 figures. But everything turned "to night time" before I could make them out.

After blacking out for the second time in one day, I could hear voices. They were very quiet, but I did hear something.

I couldn't quite open my eyes yet, but I was beginning to regain consciousness. I turned my head to the left and held in a cry of pain. Rolling onto the actual injury, hurts. Don't do that.

"Look-a. She's-a waking up."

My left eye shot open straight away, as my right eye was so swollen it couldn't open. Turning my head to the right, I saw 3 people. Actual, normal people, who don't want to kill me... I hope.

There was a doctor, a blue-haired guy with a golden crown, and then an elven boy wearing a green tunic. I started shaking, instantly recognising these people. They all stared at me, looking so concerned.

"Hey, are you alright?" Link asked.

...Did he just speak?

No. It can't be them. Link has never spoken in his life.

It randomly occurred to me that I was just gazing at them like I was in a trance. "Those injuries must've been worse than we thought," spoke the Hero King Marth in all seriousness. I tried to speak, but my mouth wouldn't make the sound I wanted it to. The RIGHT ones anyway. I kept my mouth shut from that point onwards.

Link reached out his hand to put on my hand, to calm my shaking I hadn't even noticed myself I assumed. I sharply pulled back my hand. Still majorly shaken up due to the fact that I was "trying" to speak to 3 supposedly fictional characters, I started backing away from them. How do I know this isn't some sort of elaborate prank? My head racing at a million miles an hour with all kinds of thoughts, I became fearful.

"Hey, it's okay. We don't want to hurt you..." I relaxed a little. Oh his voice was so soothing, it was impossible to not feel something afterwards. After realising that I was not in the same place where I had begun taking a nap, I looked around me.

The room was on the plain side of design, but it was quite large. The walls were a nice white colour and there were multiple beds going from one end of the room to the other. It kind of looks like the nurse's office at my school.

"She seems alright-a, for now. Give her a few-a more days of rest-a, and she'll be as-a good as-a new."

"Thank you Doctor Mario," Marth thanked. Doctor Mario then left the room, leaving Link, Marth and I alone.

"My name is Link," He spoke slowly, yet clearly.

"And I'm Marth," the prince said after.

I still wasn't quite confident with speaking yet. I'm lucky that no one heard the first attempt. So I just gave them both a simple nod, and a small wave of my hand. Similar to when I first started at Alphamona high actually.

"Marth and I found you laying on the ground in the middle of the forest. We heard cries for help while we were walking around, so we went to find where they came from." I blushed a little.

So THEY were the 2 figures I saw in the forest! That means... They would've had to bring me here somehow. Which most likely means... one of them carried me.

I began opening my right eye unintentionally. I'm pretty sure taking a stab to the chest would hurt less. I tried covering it to hide the ugliness of it, but it was only then when I realised that there was a bandage wrapped around my head to cover my eye, along with the cut on the side. The young men seemed to notice my expression.

"Hey, are you okay? How's your eye by the way? It looked like it was in pretty bad shape when we found you." I tried gathering some courage inside to at least be able to talk to these two. I was able to choke out a couple of words, "It.... hurts...."

I lowered myself down to position I was comfortable in, and let go of my eye. I pulled the quilt right up to my nose, and tried to sleep off the annoying headache I had. Whilst I was dozing off, I heard the supposed Link and Marth have a small, whispering conversation.

"The poor girl, she must feel awful."

"Yeah, I wonder who she is..."

"Or what even happened to her."

"Mmmm Hmmm. We should go tell the others."

"Good idea, let's go."
