What is he doing here?!
Just, what?!
I immediately went back to the Nurse's Station. I slowly grabbed my water bottle and drank. I gathered one of the files in the desk and checked it. I sighed. So, this is how it goes, huh?
I'll just have to deal with it. Surely, he would not stay here for long. He is wearing a white coat. This is what was bothering me so much.
He took up medicine? I slowly nodded as if answering my own question. Good for him. Five years so that means he just finished his post graduate internship, right?
"Chief, akala ko po kakausapin niyo si Doctor Bautista. Nasa office niya po siya. Kadaraan ko lang po," Nurse Irene said.
"Yes, I will. I just have to check these files again."
"Okay po, Chief. May kausap po pala siya kanina. Bago lang lumabas sa office niya. Ang gwapo po!"
"I got it, Nurse Irene. Be professional," I reminded her.
Napatahimik siya roon. I lost my cool. As much as possible, I tried to be patient with them. Napatikom din ako ng bibig. I should not be too strict.
"You can go now."
I went towards Doctor Bautista's office. I have to talk to him regardless of who he is talking with. I had an appointment with him. I was supposed to discuss with him about improving the patient-care standards for patients with problems on the cardiovascular system. Though, it is mainly accounted to the cardiologists in the hospital, they needed to hear the side of the Nursing Department. As the Chief Nursing Officer, I have that responsibility.
Staring at myself in front of the mirror, I fixed my hair. I made it sure that the bun is neatly done. My nursing cap is placed appropriately – not to high and not too low. I checked my uniform, the usual all-white scrub suit of nurses with my pin and ID.
I looked at my face. I am now wearing my contact lenses. Eyeglasses are very inconvenient for me especially during emergency situations. I now know how to apply make-up. It's needed. Sad reality of today is the more presentable you are, the more respect you receive. My wide eyes are properly highlighted without the glasses. My soft lips are colored light pink as they said that this color suits my pale-white complexion. My cheeks were also touched with make-up.
I like this appearance more.
"You may come in," I heard Doctor Bautista's voice.
I gently opened the door. What welcomed me was Doctor Bautista in his chair and fixing something on his table.
"Take a seat, Nurse Flores. Pardon me, I had a guest ealier. It's a missed. It would've been great if you've met him."
No, thank you.
I was itching to say that but I kept it inside.
I placed our plan on his table. "It's fine, Dr. Baustita. So, here's our plan from the meeting that we had last week."
I, then, proceeded to explaining the summary of the plan to him. I deliberately put in a lot of effort for this. The cardiology department is so close to my heart. It somehow reminds me of Papa. Just because of lack of heart donor, he died. I don't want others to experience that so I really put in a lot of thought and dedication in this.
"Thank you. I'll review this first and rest assured that this will be heard in my meeting with my department. You really don't disappoint, Nurse Flores," Dr. Bautista warmly smiled at me.
