The Beast Within

Prologue

I ran my cold fingers over her still face, my beloved lay here in my arms at peace "I killed them all, I killed them for you Sara, you can sleep at peace" I whispered as I cradled her cold form, I looked around the blood covered room, bodies, guts and blood lay around me, my bare knees where kneeling in her blood, I heard heels clicking against the cement floor that suddenly stopped when they entered the room "oh my god, Nyssa!" I looked up at the familiar voice, it was my best friend Tris, aka Lucky "I thought you were dead" she said looking down at who I was holding, I looked at her through my glossy eyes, I felt the tear stains on my cheeks as I spoke "th-they killed her, so I killed them" I ran my hands through her soft curly blonde hair, I felt a hand on my shoulder and I looked up into Lucky's eyes "I'm- I'm so sorry Nyssa, if there's anything I can do" I shook my head and stood up, carefully laying her on the ground "there's nothing anyone can do now, she's gone, and I have an empire to build" I said wiping away my tears "you know I'll help anyway I can" she said placing a gloved hand on my shoulder, I looked to her and nodded. 5 years ago I met the love of my life, my beloved Sara, I didn't know who she was at the time I just knew she was the one, she never told me she had been running from a cartel that she had stolen from, finally after so long they finally caught up to her.

3 hours earlier. I sat on our red and black loveseat watching Sara pour another glass of wine "are you planning on getting drunk love? you can hardly handle one drink" I said jokingly and she playfully slapped my thigh chuckling "shut up, I just feel a little.. spontaneous tonight" she said with a smirk then bit her lip, I looked her up and down and grabbed her thighs and pulled her onto my lap making her straddle me, she let out an adorable surprised giggle and I smiled placing my hand over her warm cheek and ran my thumb over her perfectly pouted bottom lip "you're so perfect baby" I said running a hand over her thigh and she smiled brightly "says you" she replied bringing her lips to mine gently brushing my bottom lip, she went to lean further in for a kiss but before she could a loud gunshot rang out through the air, I felt my lap get wet and I looked down to see blood pouring from her stomach.

I looked at her face and it was shocked "N-Nys-" before she finished she fell backwards onto the floor "no, no, no!" I jumped off the couch and pulled her into my arms "no! baby, baby! Sara stay with me!" I placed my hand on her cheek and looked into her blue eyes that were fading "Sara, please!" I begged watching blood flow out of her mouth each time she spoke "shh, shh, don't talk baby, don't talk.. It's gonna be okay" my voice cracked and she manged enough strength to weakly grab my hand, I held it tight and watched her choke on her own blood "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry baby, please.. please stay" I said feeling tears stream down my face "I- I.. lo-ove.. you" she choked out and just like that she was gone, her body fell limp and her eyes were stuck open, haunting me, I heard a cocky voice behind me and I felt my blood boil "yeah boss, we got her, what do we do with her.. partner?" I whipped around and jumped to my feet "you.. you killed my girlfriend" I said darkly staring at him.

He smirked and put his phone away "the boss says to kill you too if you're any trouble, so just sit down cry over your thieving girlfriend and mind your own business" he said cockily and I felt an anger I'd never felt before bubbling in the pit of my stomach "go to hell" I spat and he tilted his head and smiled "fine.. be trouble" he pointed his gun at me, a shot rang through the air but I was quicker, I jumped over the seat to charge at him, but I was suddenly stopped in my tracks by a pair of muscular hands, they threw me to the floor and I looked up, there were five men standing around me smirking, looking at my body "have fun with her boys, I gotta send the boss proof that the bitch is dead" I felt rage boil inside me, one guy went to grab me but I threw my leg out and kicked him as hard as I could in the knee and he fell to the floor, I jumped up and ran to the kitchen, I saw Sara's Katana on the kitchen table and I grabbed it "see you in hell" I said staring them down, I charged and swiped the sword into the air.

I looked behind me and saw one of the men in half bleeding out on the floor, I smirked and ran into the next guy, plunging the sword into his chest and watched him collapse as his blood splattered on my face, I jumped the couch and brought the sword down into another guys head, he fell and the remaining two stared at me "last chance little girl, stand down and we may let you live" the guy that killed Sara said pulling out his gun "I'll make your death the most painful" I said eyeing him and he smiled "bring her head to me" suddenly one charged and he turned his back to me, I swung the katana and decapitated the guy, I kicked the remaining guys knees in and he collapsed, I stood in front of him and he stared at me with true fear in his eyes, without even blinking I slashed across his stomach making his guts fall in front of him "you're just gonna be my little message, I'm coming for your boss, and when I do, they're gonna wish they never met me" I said kneeling to his face and then standing up and cradled Sara's lifeless body.

I turned back to Lucky and sighed "we need to get out of Star City" she nodded her head and then her eyebrows shot up making me raise one of mine questioningly "remember how I told you about my cousin in Gotham City?" I thought for a moment then slightly nodded "well, it just so happens she needs a roommate and wanted me to move to Gotham to stay, this is a perfect opportunity!" I took a deep breath and looked around the room, thinking of all our memories "okay, let's leave tonight" I said turning away to pack a few things, Lucky followed me into my bedroom and leaned against the door frame "I have to warn you, there's literal crazies running around and running Gotham" she said crossing her arms and I shrugged my shoulders "it's about time for a new adventure anyway" I said grabbing Sara's favorite pair of pants that I also fit, I saw a small box in the pocket and Lucky and I both frowned in confusion, I pulled the box out and opened it and my lips parted slightly Lucky made her way over to me and looked too and her jaw dropped, it was a beautiful 50 carat pure diamond ring, I felt a tear slide down my cheek as I took it out of the box "that's why she asked me to leave you guys alone for the night" Lucky said as her own tears fell, I slipped the ring on my ring finger and it fit perfectly, I finished packing and met Lucky down in the car, she revved the engine and turned to me "are you sure you're ready for this?" I nodded and looked straight ahead "Gotham isn't gonna know what hit it" I said, then looked down at my ring and smiled.
