Demi's POV
Today, Lilly and I flew back home. The rest of the holiday was uneventful. My family loved her, and by the end of the trip, I joked that they loved her more than me.
As we unpacked, I heard Lilly muffle something while she was bent over.
"What was that, Lilly?" I came behind her and kissed her softly on the cheek.
"Uh...nothing..?" Lilly turned bright red.
She's an awful liar.
"C'mon," I said nudging her playfully, "tell me!"
Her demeanor changed quickly. Her face hardened and eyes filled with fire. "It's nothing, okay!" she expressed harshly. Deep down, I felt a stab in my heart. I turned away and went to the other room, tears threatening to spill. As I left, I heard her say, "some people need to mind their damn business."
This hurt. I didn't even know it, and didn't know why, but I screamed. I screamed until my vision started to fade out, and I felt hands guide me to the bed. No, hands are bad. Hands have hurt me in the past. Why would they help me now? Then, everything went black.
Lilly's POV
I didn't mean for Demi to hear the "mind their damn business" part. As a matter of fact, I was talking to my phone. But the next thing I knew, she let out an earpiercing scream. It wouldn't end, so I rushed her to the bed. She closed her eyes. She was so beautiful when she slept, so peaceful, even with tears fresh down her cheeks. It hurt though, knowing I did this.
You see, some of my old bullies found me and started harrassing me a few days ago. The pressure was starting to build and I guess it just came out of me in the form of me blowing up at Demi. I had just recieved a message that said, "We miss you, little loser. Where have you been? Hopefully you're dead, but if you're not, we wanna know so we can have a little talk". That's why I had muttered the comment under my breath.
I walked back to the bed and sat down, rubbing Demi's back. She woke up, a look of panic in her eyes, which quickly turned to hurt when she saw it was me.
"Go away." she whispered in a raspy voice.
"Babe, just listen, it was all a misunderstanding."
"Obviously you don't trust me."
"Please listen to me, Demetria. I promise you'll understand."
She didn't respond, which I took as my cue to start my explaination. I told her everything, but witheld when my bullies told me they wished I was dead. This would crush her and I didn't need her taking matters into her own hands.
"Oh my gosh, Lil, I'm so sorry. I know I can't just tell you to brush it off because it's not that easy, but I want you to know you mean everything to me. You'll always be safe with me and that's my vow. I guess it just really hurt me that you didn't tell me. But, I understand how it's impossible to open up about." Demi took me into her arms. We stayed like this until I broke the silence.
"Dems, what made you scream?" I ran my hand through her hair.
"Lilly, I really want to tell you, I do trust you, but I don't think I'm ready to yet. When you hear it, you'll understand. Please don't be mad."
"Babe, I'll wait an eternity for you. Of course I'm not mad at you!" I said gently.
"Good. I'm hungry. We should go get food!" Demi suggested.
We decided to cook some chicken. Demi went to the store, and couldn't help but laugh when I saw she had returned with a whole chicken for just the two of us. I also couldn't help but laugh when she turned on music and made the chicken dance. I decided to handle the actual cooking part because we all know how good of a cook she is. Halfway through, Demi went upstairs to take a nap. I decided to suprise her with a candlelight dinner. I set up the table with candles and turned the lights down low. When she came down, she gasped and hugged me tightly, planting a long kiss on me.
"Babe, this is so romantic! The candles and flowers and just ugh it's so perfect!" Demi squealed.
After eating, we cuddled on the couch in each other's arms and watched a romantic movie. As I fell asleep, I couldn't help but feeling like the luckiest girl in the world.
