This story used to freak the shit out of me when I walked outside at night. I read it in an 'strange but true' book in primary school. james_mckinnon223 you Should remember this story; the Mothman. Remember the Area 51 book with this chapter in it? Damn that was freaky. Well guys, please enjoy my version of the original information from 'strange but true' being put into a short horror story.
Thanks
Jake :)

11:25 pm, 11/9/2014, 50 km out of Alice Springs.....

"Why" I curse myself. "Why do I keep driving? It's pitch black, cold and it's a fucking full moon." I look at the rear view mirror. Nothing but dull red dirt and blackness. "The stars are petty though" I say as I point out constellations. "The southern cross, Sagittarius and the hydra. Ooh and there's mars and Jupiter." I love space. Ever since my dad worked at a space telescope, he had always been talking about strange radio signals being emitted from stars. But that day he came home from work. He was never the same. He drove himself mad about humans not being alone in the universe. I say that if they don't want to be seen, leave them alone. It's how the world nearly ended in the movie 'Independence Day' and 'Oblivion'. But their just movies. The car hits a series bumps and I bounce up and hit my head on the roof, twice. "Fucking dirt roads" I curse. I look up at the stars again. A shooting star steaks across the sky. I take a breath and make a wish. I look up again and two more shooting stars dance across the sky. "Must be a meteor shower" I say. I keep driving, thinking about where I should stop fit the night.

12:00pm

I arrive at a small service station. I park at a pump, punch in the amount of fuel I want in the meter and fill the car up until it's completely full. I insert my card, pay for the fuel and drive off. As I drive off I notice a dark shape in the window of the service station. "Stupid kids" I think. But as I think, I realise how remote this place is. The middle of nowhere, no water, no houses, no people. I just shake my head and floor the car to 110 km/h. For the next 30 minuets I drive with the radio playing in the car.

The next minuet my favourite song pops up; 'A line in the sand' by Linkin Park. I sing along to the 6 minuet song until it ends. After that a quick news update pops up. A lady talks about wether patterns and fronts. "And by tomorrow, Alice springs will reach a top of 44 degrees Celsius." The lady says. "Damn, it's gonna be hot here tomorrow" I say to myself. As I drive I notice a shape one the side of the road. I drive past it and I realise that it looks exactly like the figure in the service station, only this one is looking at me with glowing red eyes!

Sweat starts to pour down my back. I push the car to 125 km/h it won't go any faster. After about 5 minuets of high speed, I slow down.
The clock ticks to 12:40 am. "Wow, I need to rest" I say to myself. I full the car over and turn off the ignition. I get out and suck up some clean and fresh air. I walk over to the side of the car and take a widdle. Once I'm done, I go to the back of the car and jump in the caravan. I turn the light on and lock the door. I pull off my clothes and leave just my boxers on. I turn the light back off and climb into my bed. I close my eyes and before I know it, I'm asleep.

2:01 am

I wake up to the sound of shuffling dirt. "What the fuck?" I moan while sitting up. I peer out the window, still 80% asleep. Still pitch black. No roos. No lizards. No snakes. No cars.
THUMP!!!Shuffle....... THUMP!!!
"What the fuck" I say while getting out of bed. I walk over to my draws and pull on a pair of jean shorts and a white rip-curl singlet. I slip on my thongs and move over to the cupboard. I pick up my hunting knife. "You never know " I say as I take a deep breath and walk out of the caravan.
Silence....
I do a complete 360 around my car and caravan. "Nothing. Nothing there. But what was the noise?" I ask myself. I turn around again and nearly shit myself.

Standing at the other side of the road was a man. No not a man, I don't know what the fuck it is but it's defiantly not a man. It was Just over 7 foot tall. It's body was a strange down of brown and grey short fur, Like a kangaroos fur. It's hands were human like but instead of fingers, they were claws. It's feet were the same. It's head looked human but it had no hair and it's eyes were, red! Glowing red eyes! And on it's back it seemed to have wings. They looked like they were the same colour as it's fur. It was hard to make out because of the lack of light but it seemed to be emitting its own light. Just a faint aura of light.

I gulped down a scream. "I-I'm armed" I stutter in fear. The creature looks at me with a tilt in its head. I glance behind me because I swear something else is behind be, but nothing's there. I look forwards again to see what the creature will do next and it's right there! About 10 centimetres from my face. I want to stab it with my knife but I'm frozen in fear. It reaches forward and touches my face. It's fingers are Ice cold and the fur seems to burn my face. It's glowing red eyes gaze into my soul, sending violent shivers down my spine. Suddenly I don't feel frozen anymore. I let out a quick roar and ram my hunting knife into the creatures chest. It lets out a sound between an elephant call and a dog barking. Green Blood trickles down my hand and my knife. I grip the knife and attempt to arch it upwards. It jumps back as I attempt to do this. It lets out a hiss and spreads it's wings, which sort of resembles a moths wings and jumps into the air. It disappears. I shake in fear and shock from what just happened. The free blood still runs down my arm, staining my white singlet.

I run into my caravan as the blood seems to burn my arm, like acid. I run water over my arm from the sink. It doesn't help. I grab a first aid kit down from the cupboard and pour antibacterial liquid on it. It stings like hell for a moment but it stops the burning. I wipe it off, put the kit away and turn around to lock the door. I lock the door, turn the light off and climb into bed. I fell asleep straight after.

9:16 am

I wake up and look above me. The mothman is there. In my caravan. How? I don't know. It leans down and tears at my face with its claws. I scream in pain and agony as it tears through flesh and breaks bones. It reaches my skull and in a quick sweep of its claws, it tears through my brain. My body goes limp and my blood spills everywhere. The mothman steps back, let's out a hiss and jumps out of the caravan.

I was killed by a creature of myth and legend. Now I warn you. If you hear a shuffle and a thump sound coming from outside. STAY FUCKING INSEDE!! Because who knows, it could be outside at this very moment!!!

(Based on a true story. some guy acutely has pictures of the mothman which appeared on his front door. Read the 'strange but true' myths and legends book to find out the real story!)
