XXIX. YOU CAN REST NOW

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
"you can rest now"

Jade was thrown back by the snap, landing hard on her backside against the ground. She laid there for a moment— afraid if she looked up at where Tony snapped, something horrible was to be seen.

But she looked up anyways, taking a sharp breath as she leaned forward to see Tony still on his knees and his hand still in the snapping position, looking down at her with wide eyes.

She stood up quickly, ignoring all the pain her body was giving her and walked up to him slowly, her hands out for him to hopefully take. But he didn't. He barely moved.

Half of his body was burnt from the Stones impact, it singed off half of his head hair, and his suit was ruined.

"D-Dad?" She stuttered out. She was oblivious of what was happening to the chitauri army and had all her focus on Tony. "D-Daddy?"

"Ja..Jade," Tony mumbled weakly, his eyes softened.

Jade's eyes filled with tears as she stumbled to his side, "H-hey, hey, hey,"

She knew he was about to die, he wasn't going to survive this— how could he? Tony stood up, almost falling when Jade grabbed his side, holding him up. She looked at his face for a sign and noticed his eyes were locked upon the Titan in front of them.

She watched as Thanos sat down, defeated, and slowly, he disappeared into dust. Tony started walking, pulling Jade to help him. He was shaky as he walked, stumbling badly. The two made it to a rocky wall and Tony placed his back against the wall, sliding down.

Jade stayed by his side, she squatted to his level, her hand holding onto his.

"It's gonna be okay," Jade whispered, scared if she spoke any louder she would burst into tears.

Something landed in front of the two, Jade looked up and saw Rhodey, a frown on his face when his helmet lifted up. Jade frowned back at him and nodded her head towards Tony.

Rhodey kneeled beside him, looking him in the eyes. He smiled sadly at him and put a hand on his head. Tony smiled back at him, he's always been there for him and he was grateful for him.

Then another came up to them, Jade looked to see it was Peter. Her frown deepened when she saw him, she looked away from him, she knew what was about to happen. Rhodey took a step to the side and let Peter in.

"Mr. Stark?" He asked, starting to breathe harder. "H-hey... Mr. Stark? Can you hear me? It's Peter. Hey... We won, Mr. Stark— We won,... Mr. Stark.... We won. You did it, sir. You did it—"

Jade lifted her hand and put it on Peter's hand, giving it a tight squeeze, but she couldn't look at him or she would be a crying mess. Then Pepper came in and pulled him away, "I'm sorry— Tony,"

And Jade let go of him, pulling her hand up to her mouth trying to hold back her loud sobs that threatened to come out. She was still trying to hold in her tears, she sniffed as a few fell out, it was becoming harder and harder.

Pepper kneeled down on the other side of Tony, she shared a sad look with Jade, trying to reassure her.

"Hey," Pepper starts softly, turning to Tony. Tony barely moves his head and looks Pepper in the eyes.

"Hey, Pep," Tony mumbled very quietly. Pepper placed her hand on Tony's chest and Jade did the same. Slowly, Tony lifted his hand and put it on top of theirs.

"Friday?" Pepper asked.

"Life functions critical," she said.

Tony's eyes were watery as he looked between his two girls, but he smiled anyway.

"Tony?" Pepper asked. She was holding back her tears, trying to be strong. "Look at me."

Tony looks at her, groaning weakly, "We're gonna be okay," she said. "You can rest now."

Tony looked back at Jade and weakly mumbled, "I love you... 3000," and he smiled one last time before letting out his last breath.

And it was then, Jade knew he was gone. She let everything out, crying uncontrollably and sobbing loudly on Tony's chest, "Dad? Dad? No... no! I love you too! I love you too! Come back! Please, come back!"

Then she felt a hand rest on her shoulder and she looked back to see Peter with tears rolling down his face, eyes bloodshot. Jade launched herself at him, wrapping her arms around his waist and crying in his chest.

Everyone had tears in their eyes. The scene broke everyone's heart. Clint was the first to take a knee for Tony. T'Challa repeated this and soon enough, everyone was kneeling in honor of Tony.

"J-Jade," Peter mumbled in her hair. Jade looked up, sniffling. He nodded his head to the scene happening...

And it made her smile.
