It could have been an alchemy class like any other. If only Grim wouldn't have snapped at Ace's mischevious remarks, throwing one of the new spells they learned a few classes back towards him.

The boy dodged it in time, leaving the blue beam jump from a glass surface to the other, dashing above the heads of the startled students until falling in their caudron with an explosion of silver smoke and sparks.

The smoke crawled outside through the opened windows, just like the shiver that ran through the boy's and the beast's spines when the teacher glared at them.

When he finally left them alone, Ace glowered at Grim.

"Thanks for the extra work and detention, Grim."

"You're welcome, Ace."

But when they tried to start over the experiment, something was off.

The ingredients they threw inside the cauldron were supposed to have an immediate visible reaction, but no matter how much of them they put, nothing happened.

"Hey, where did all the ingredients go-ooh-fnaaagh!" Good thing the Prefect promptly caught him before he fell over.

"Now that I think about it: where is the spoon that I left in there?"

Yuu searched for the wooden spoon Deuce slipped into the cauldron during the explosion, stretching his whole arm into the smaller container.

"What the- is this thing bottomless?"

"What? How?" Grim's eyes were wide with surprise.

"Only a way to find out..."

Yuu let a match fall inside. The light disappeared in the dark.

"Looks like we find ourselves in front of a bottomless cauldron now..."

"But wasn't that spell supposed to turn you into a frog or something? how did we end up with a bottomless cauldron?"

"Grim, I think you mispronounced the entire last part of the spell."

"Are the bad puppies done slacking off?"

"Ah! Y-yes, Mr. Crewel!"
