In the dead of a moonless night, a tower of smoke rose in the sky. Screams echoed agains the sides of the mountains, as flames consumed the houses of the once peaceful village. Men and women of all ages were out in the streets, fighting against the monsters, or simply trying to hide themselves and their children.
Through the iron and the flames, two siblings ran, never letting go from each other's hand.
You were almost outside of the village, when a vampire appeared in your way, their fangs and clothes dirty with blood. Holding you closer to him, Epel backed away, only to be surrounded by two more vampires.
The monsters kept approacching. You grudgingly let go of your hands, Epel's clutching arond the pitchfork while you reached for the sling in your pocket.
With a scream, the boy pierced the chest of the monster in front of him, black liquid trailing down the metal as they kept reaching for him.
Another backed away with a shriek, holding their bleeding eye. You searched for another rock in your pocket, until a hand pulled you away. You screamed and struggled, kicking, hitting with your elbows and biting down their arm, but all to no use.
Epel turned around, his cerulean eyes wide in terror. He desperately swung the pitchwork around him, struggling to push the vampires away so he could pull you away from that monster, but they kept gathering around him, trapping him.
Your captor's fangs were dangerously approacching your neck...
Suddenly, the suffocating grasp loosened. The vampire laid still on the ground, it's skin turning black where an arrow with black feathers stuck in his head. One by one, the vampires that surrounded Epel fell too, their necks and head hit by similar arrows with the same precision.
You looked around, your saviour nowhere to be seen.
"Now it's our chance! Run!"
Holding hands once again, you left your village behind.
Your steps rustled trough the grass as you dashed in the darkness, so close to the forest...
Epel let go of your hand, falling on the ground.
"Brother!" they kneeled next to him, noticing a small arrow with white fletching stuck in his leg. You felt a brief pain pierce your shoulder, then everything went black.
***
When you opened your eyes, you found yourself in a dark room, wrapped in silk sheets. When you turned around, you left out a sigh of relief.
"Epel, Wake up!" you shook him gently. The boy slowly opened his eyes.
You both jolted awake at the sound of a lock. The door opened. With a snap of fingers, the candles next to the bed and the door lit up, revealing two men. Their eyes glew faintly purple and green.
Epel wrapped his arms around you, glaring at the two.
"So these are the two youths you told me about earlier..."
He walked next to the bed, the dim light falling on his pale skin. He grabbed Epel by the chin, examining his face, his dark lips curling into a condescending grin "Not bad.... Not bad at all..."
Epel struggled to push the hand away, but the stranger's hand was like glued to his chin.
His hand leaned towards your face. Epel pulled you closer, grabbing the stranger's wrist and spitting him in the eye.
"Don't. You. Dare."
He scoffed "It would have been perfect if only they had some manners..."
With a swift movement, he pulled you away from your brother's arms, lifting you like you were a feather. With his free hand, he grabbed Epel by the collar of his shirt, keeping you away from each other.
A sinister light danced in his purple eyes, his voice sultry as he turned to the other man: "Now that I remember, I haven't given my trusted hunter his reward yet..." his hand motioned you closer to them.
"What am I allowed to do with them, mon comte?"
"Everything you please, as long as you keep them alive. We don't want such young blood to run out so easily, do we?" He pulled him into a kiss on the lips, then handed you over to him.
Epel yelled and kicked over captor's shoulder, his eyes watering with anger as you kept squirming and fighting in the hunter's arms, his face ghosting over the crook of your neck.
You screamed, his fangs sinking into your skin.
The door closed, leaving you alone.
