"I bought you your favourite." Chan placed a small plate of a strawberry shortcake infront of me, and a cup of hot chocolate. I stop to realize that this food combination seemed oddly nostalgic to me.
Right. I remember. The memory of it was bittersweet. That night at the convenience store with Mark. The remembrance brings a sorrowful smile painted across my lips.
"What are you smiling at?" Chan asked, sitting down. I shook my head from memory lane.
I smiled at his thoughtful gesture of remembering my unhealthy addiction to strawberries.
"Thank you, Chan...But you do know I can pay half...Right? It's the least I could do." I smiled at him, making him tuck a finger under his chin, pretending to think while pouting his lips in the air and squinting his eyes.
He then faces me.
"no."
He even had one of those insincere and sarcastic smiles plastered on his face. I may like him, but that doesn't mean I don't want to punch him in the face.
"It's my treat. I want to make it up to you for making me lunch." He said, shrugging and digging into the pasta he ordered. "Besides, your cooking tastes better than any food I tasted."
At least that made me feel at ease. I knew at some point I would make it up to him. Maybe I could do that by getting his secretary out of her place. Besides, Chan also has some reasons on why he wanted her out. I don't know why, but he just hates her guts.
"Oh right, about HyeJin..." I trailed off after sipping from my hot chocolate.
"What about her? Any update?" He asked, looking up at me, eyes filled with anticipation.
"About that...She actually did a minor infraction, but me and Jisoo had it handled." I said raising my palm to shrug it off. He sat up straight and raised both his eyebrows.
"She did? What did she do to you? Are you hurt?" He asks, putting down his fork.
"No don't worry. She didn't harm me physically. But she did try sabotaging my work by snooping and deleting all my files." I said as a matter of fact.
I don't know why does she hate me or alone what makes her hate me. From the way she acts and calls me a newbie, I know for a fact that she wants me gone from my position. Do I care? No, not really.
"Did you recover them?" He asked, and in response, I nodded.
"Good girl, Dae Young." Chan smiles, and pats my head.
Do I look like a dog to him? I mean, I can be a bitch but that's not the point.
"Do I look like a dog to you?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You told me that I looked like a dog earlier, so..." He teases, making me go flustered. "No- I didn't mean that in a bad way- I promise I-"
"Why what do you want me to call you? Good girl or baby girl?" He asked tilting his head back, making his adam's apple prominent, bulking against the skin of his neck.
My cheeks flustered. He always knows how to tease me, and it's unfair! How come he always gets his way and knows how to turn tables around? Sometimes, I hate him for being so clever.
"Um...neither." I sipped on my hot chocolate, hiding my rosy cheeks while he starts laughing at my flustered reaction. The way his eyes turned to crescents made my heart warm. I waited for him until he died down, but a few laughs escaped from my mouth. I ended up trying not to laugh because of him.
"Okay, okay...But how did you figure it out?" He asked, as he slowly sat up straight.
"I saw how she looked at me...You know? But I know I can't use that as a reason in court, so I planned to get evidence from the CCTV footage."
