I wake up with a groan before looking at the clock. 8:13am. Ugh. I stand up hesitantly. "Mama, wake up."
****

I ring the door bell, yawning. I ring it again, placing my hands on my waist.

The door swung open, the house maid smiles at me politely. "Good morning."

"Good morning, come in and sit down. He'll be here soon enough." The old house maid says as I sit on the chair.

"Okay, thank you." She leaves the parlor, I lean my head on the arm rest.

"Good morning, nurse". Qahhar says walking towards me from behind. I sit up, cursing myself for not sleeping early.

"Good morning, Mr Qahhar."

"Just qahhar is fine."

"Qahhar."

I nod, putting up a smile. "Are you sleepy?"

He asks as my eyes snapped at him. Its true but how could I say that?

"No, of course not." I rub my eyes, shaking my head like it's absurd. He looks at me while he stood.

"Okay." He says before leaving the room. I groan, leaning back. I look at the ceiling, memories swallowing me.

"What do you think?" I ask Jabir who laid down on the bed. "Turn around, let me see you."

I swirl so he could see the dress I wore. "Wow, you look gorgeous. Come here."

I get on the bed, sitting beside him. "I'm getting a promotion. I will become the head doctor."

I gasp, smiling widely. "That's great! I didn't know."

"Yeah, I was just informed. I want to fulfill my promise to you." He holds my hand , kissing it. "Don't pressurize yourself."

"I know but I love you so much and the dress looks so good on you."

I smile, batting my eyelashes. "Thank you, I have gotten so used to scrubs. I wanted to treat myself."

"Come here." He pulls me to his arms.

"Nurse." Qahhar brings me back to my present situation, life.

"Yes, what can I help you with?"

"Are you okay?" He asks. "I'm fine, just thinking."

He nods. "I'm going out and I want you to come with me."

"I can't, I am a house nurse."

"You are my nurse, I'm your patient. I can't leave without my nurse. Let's go."

I sigh, standing up. "Right, can I ask where we're going if you are so kind?"

"To my friends, it won't take long. I'm tired of being cooped up at home."

We walk to the car. He pressed a button on his car key as a car honked. It was a Bentley, my car looked like a toy compared to it. A messed up toy.

"Would you like to go like this? In your scrubs?" I stop walking to look at it. "Yeah, I don't mind." I shrug.

"I like your confidence." He compliments me, opening the door for me. "Thank you." I get in and he closes the door, walking to his door.

He's a gentleman.

"The drive is going to be tedious, trust me." He say starting up the car. I realized he's been trying to strike a conversation but I keep shutting it out.

"Driving in this state is tedious." He shakes his head. "Tell me about it."

"About what?"

He snaps his head. "I don't mean...." He chuckles. I furrow my brows in confusion.

"What's funny?" I ask while he composes himself. "Its a form of speech, not literally."

"Oh, I guess you learn everyday."

"Guess you learn everyday." He repeats, agreeing with me. The car fell silent in a few seconds.

I didn't know what to say that could end the silence. I take a deep breath.

"I.."

"Do...?"

We both stop, realizing that we both wanted to start talking. "No, go ahead." He says, looking at the road.

"Its nothing, you should say whatever...." I trail off, words unable to make sense.

"Okay, i wanted to ask whether it's alright if you stay in the car."

I look at him. "Why are you asking?"

"You're a woman, my friends are really uncomfortable to be with."

I nod. "Sure." I shrug, looking at the cars that we passed. "What is it you wanted to tell me?"

I cursed under my breath. "Forget about it, it's nothing."

"Ok." The drive continued like this till we arrived. "I'll be right back." He gets out of the car, closing the door.

He wore sweats, again. What's his problem with it?

I use my phone, look at myself in the mirror, look at the people that drove in or left and dozed off.

*********

I heard a honk of the car, slowly waking up. I see qahhar driving, focusing on the road.

I rub my eyes, sitting up. "You're awake." He states.

"Yeah, I didn't know when I slept off."

"I'm sorry I took long, I forgot to keep track of time."

I was bored to death but how many people would apologize even though I am working for them?

"Its okay."

I lean back on the seat. "Its 5pm, should I drop you off at your house?"

I would love that but I left my car plus mama would think of something else. I'm not ready for that.

"No, I left my car at your house."

"Okay." We arrive at the house. I got out of the car, walking to mine. "Here you go, see you tomorrow." He places bags of takeaways in my back seat.

"You don't have to do that."

"Its alright, have a good night." He walks away as I got into my car. He didn't even let me thank him.

I walk into my house, struggling with the bags. "You're back early....what's this?"

She helps me with the bags. "A man bought it for me as a kind gesture for being late."

"Really?" We sat down and I took off my shirt, feeling relieved because of the heat.

"Yeah, he's a gentleman." I open one of the bags, taking out the food. "Maybe he likes you."

I stop before looking at her. She was excitedly bringing them out of the bags. "My god, I love this." She says to one of the packaged food.

"He doesn't like me, I don't like him."

Her expression changed. "That's your problem, you never bounce back after bad things happen. Jabir divorced you almost two years ago, now you've become all hard. Did I die when your father and brother died?"

It suddenly changed, her eyes welling up with tears. "I stood strong for you. I didn't dwindle like you are doing right now. You need to move on!"

She wipes her tears, sniffling. "I'm sorry, ma."

"Sorry for yourself." She stands up and left. I sigh, rubbing my temple.
