Jabir's point of view.I take off my coat, throwing it on the chair before I laid down on the couch. I look at the lights, tired.
I loved being a doctor but not in this hospital. I look at my table.
I gave up my university life to study yet I don't even get noticed here.
They only notice that brat Haleem. He's not even that good, he got a distinction in medicine masters. I graduated first class though.
Adama.
She was encouraging and appreciated me as a doctor but she's my wife so it's different. She was my wife.
I couldn't keep her happy especially when she couldn't give birth. I love her, I got tired of it. The relationship we had.
I want her to be happy but not with a man. I don't like her seeing other men not to talk of a spoilt man like that Qahhar.
She likes him even by the way she looks at him. I don't like them together and they won't be together. I'll try my best.
The door swung open, habiba walks in, closing the door immediately she walks in.
I ignore her, thinking. "Hey." She walks towards me. "What do you want?"
"I thought we are supposed to meet at this time for you know...."
I close my eyes, completely forgot about the meet up. "I am not in the right mood for it so you can go."
"Seriously? I had to switch shifts with someone, mind you night shift, for this."
I look at her, her arms crossed like I am depriving her from her rights. I sit up, clasping my hands, rubbing them together slightly.
"It seems like you forget that this..." I indicate to the two of us. "...this is not official. This is not your right, do you know what a right is? Your husband so don't disturb me, woman."
I lean back, she sits beside me. "I'm sorry, its just that my husband is all...different now. I'm used to you now."
I glance at her. "What's your point?"
"Let's make it quick, okay?"
I sigh, looking back at the lights. "I'm not in the mood, I'll call you when I am in the mood."
She nods. "Okay, I'll go then." She stands up and leaves angrily. I roll my eyes at her idiocy.
My phone chimed. I pick it up to know what it is about.
A meeting is taking place now!
I hurriedly took my coat, running out of my office to our chief doctor. The hospital made ranks so it would be more organised.
I run to the chief doctor Hakima's office where it takes place. I enter, the other doctors were already there.
"You're late." Doctor hakima points out, pushing her glasses back. "Sorry, I was just notified." I stand at the door.
She looks at everyone. "Where's doctor haleem?"
"He said he's on his way." A doctor says and she nods. "Okay, I can prep him on what happened so I'll continue."
I roll my eyes. Hakima always had a thing for doctor haleem. He was supposed to be the chief doctor but he declined but he's still taken as the chief anyways.
Doctor hakima is the like the second in command. Even the hospital takes him as the chief rather than doctor Hakima.
She cried when haleem gave her chief doctor and she has been buying his lunch since that day.
He's a clean freak so he doesn't eat food anywhere, he brings his own food.
"We have received complaints about switching rounds that has been causing a lot of ruckus. Everyone should stick to his job! I don't like to hear any arguments about your misunderstandings and me resolving it. I'm not a lawyer! If I wanted to be, I wouldn't be here. Now, everyone that switches and causes a misunderstanding will be suspended."
She went back to her seat. "Now, there will be a merge of hospitals next month so it might be more hectic and there might be additional nurses that will be added under you wing."
Some doctors groan, some murmur.
"What about the doctors there?" A doctor asks from the crowd. "They will not be head doctors from the other hospital till we see if they match up to our standards. Bear with it and get ready. I don't feel like talking much so that's it. Bye bye."
She waves for us to leave. We walk out, they kept on murmuring and pouting. For me as long as my paycheck gets heavier.
I see Suleiman who kept on taking a bite of his sandwich. "Suleiman, how are you?"
"I'm fine, what is it? You never talk to me unless you need something."
"I wanted to to ask who is in charge of the patient that sponsors this hospital, the leukaemia patient." Suleiman shakes his head, letting out a sigh.
********
"Come in." Haleem says and I walk in, closing the door. He was typing something on his laptop. So he wasn't planing on going to the meeting.
"What's with the visit?"
"I wanted to ask a favor."
He turns to look at me. "What might that be?"
"Its about a patient your nurse is home nursing,........."
Adama's point of view.
"Nope, not at all." I shake my head, wearing the mittens. "You sure? It seems like that though".
I bring the pan out of the oven. "Is it done?" Qahhar asks cutting some spring onions slowly and roughly.
"Yeah, just need our additional toppings. It's not supposed to be this way but it will be more fattening and delicious."
I spread the minced meat on the pizza as Qahhar spreads the onions. "It looks colorful." I admire it.
"Yes, now taste it." He hands me a slice, looking at me. Whenever he looks at me or gives me this kind of attention, I feel uncomfortable and weird.
He looks away, giving me space to take a bite. I chew it, tasting the random flavors.
"And?"
"Its delicious, here." I hand him the slice and he takes a bite. I look at him chew it. "Its great all thanks to you."
I smile. "It's a joint effort, without you, I wouldn't have gotten the spring onions." I tease him as he chuckles.
He takes his phone, reading something. "Should I take it to the sitting room?"
"Yeah, I'll bring the refreshments."
"Refreshments? That's weird, that word is outdated." I carry the pizza as he keeps his phone. "Drinks then."
"Perfect."
I kept the pizza on the center table. Qahhar keeps the drinks on the table, standing beside me, looking at it.
"Something seems to be missing, something to bring it all together." He says thinking.
"Ice cream?"
"I think that it is. I'll order it."
"The other bucket has finished." I asked, surprised. "Yeah." He heads to the kitchen, I laugh.
This past few weeks has been interesting. Qahhar and I are in a relationship without knowing, at least me not knowing.
The doorbell rang. "I'm coming!" I run to the door, swinging it open when I see Jabir. "Hey, Adda."
