I clear my throat, trying to be cool. "Why don't you usher me in?"
"Sure, what brings you here though?" I walk to the sitting room. "Just work." I furrow my brows.
Before I could say anything more, Qahhar walks in. "Dr Jabir, what brings you to my house?"
Qahhar's hands in his pocket. "Work, Dr haleem told me to be in charge of your well being."
He furrows his brows. "Adama has been replaced?"
"Yes, nurse Adama has been replaced by me."
Qahhar sighs. "You're telling me this happened without me being filled in. Sending people to my house without my knowledge, sharing my home address to just anyone, compromising my security."
Qahhar asks getting riled up. "I'm sorry, sir. It slipped from our mind to remind you, it will not happen again."
He scoffs. "It slipped?" Qahhar seemed more annoyed, I hold his hand. He glances at me. "Excuse me."
He pulls out his phone from his pocket, going back to the kitchen.
"What's that about? Have I been replaced?"
"Yes, I'm supposed to ask you the same thing, holding his hand?"
I scratch my neck. "You remember he's your patient right?" He adds.
"I know and that is all that's between us, okay?" He raised both his brows. "Wow, you're an 'us' now?" He asks. "Please don't start that now. I'm not in the mood."
I tilt my head, Jabir looking around. "Very nice house."
Jabir is irritating me. "What really brought you here?" I narrow my eyes suspiciously. He raises his hands. "I'm innocent." I roll my eyes, thinking. Doctor haleem doesn't do things on impulse, there must be a reason.
I walk towards the stairs. "Where are you going?"
"Nothing of importance to you." I run, taking my bag and walking back downstairs.
Qahhar was talking to Jabir. "Qahhar, I'll be going out."
"Where to?"
"The hospital to ask what is going on." I held the door knob. "Okay, should I drive you there?"
I shake my head, smiling weakly. "Nah, thank you. Bye." I left, getting into my Mazda.
****I knock. "Come in." Haleem says as I walked in. "Good afternoon, doctor haleem."
"Good afternoon, Adama." He turns his chair to face me. "I came to verify something, its about doctor Jabir replacing me."
He takes a deep breath. "Yes, it's true. I would've preferred you left your patient's house but he called complaining. The management said I should let you because he's a huge sponsor but it isn't right so continue but I will not support it. I sent Jabir to work for me."
I nod, partly happy because I won't be working at all and will still be paid at the end of the month.
Downside, my mentor doesn't trust me with my work. Haleem is a hard person, he doesn't trust anyone easily, you have to earn that. It applies to respect too.
"I'm sorry if I disappointed you." I say, leaving the room almost immediately. I didn't wait to hear his response, good or bad.
I walk thinking how good this is except Jabir there to cramp my style. I groan frustratedly.
"I know that groan." Habiba says from behind me. I acted like I didn't hear her and continued walking.
I couldn't see her, I didn't feel like ruining my mood. This would hurt her more than for me to utter a single word.

I was driving to Qahhar's but my car stopped so I had to get on a tricycle. I arrive to Qahhar's house, dreading to see Jabir again.I walk in, closing the door. "You can come in the morning and leave immediately after giving me the drugs I need."
"Okay." Jabir nods, he turns to look at me. "Ada, you took time. Everything okay?" Qahhar looks at him. Jabir takes his bag walking towards me.
I groan internally. "Yeah. I had to talk to doctor haleem so I could understand the situation."
"I hope you're not angry at me. I was just obeying orders."
I scoff, internally. The fact that of all people, haleem chose Jabir is absurd. Doctor haleem and Jabir have never spoken to each other from what I've seen after six years of working there.
Doctor haleem sensed Jabir didn't like him so he just ignored him, Jabir is too proud, haleem is a calm rude straight forward person sometimes, so they don't jell well.
For sure, Jabir did something.
I smile. "I'm not angry at all, be safe." He leaves.
"What happened?" Qahhar asks. "Doctor haleem replaced me with Jabir because he knew I am attached to my patient." I walk towards him, taking my bag off my shoulder.
"He said the only reason I'm here is because the hospital told him to let me stay, you called complaining." I smile.
"You have to do that sometimes, they tend to make people look like imbeciles." I stand in front of him as he holds my hands.
"Yeah, that's everywhere you go."
"You feel bad though." He points out, I sigh. "Yeah, haleem is more than my mentor. He is a friend, a very weird friend. He was there for me when I got divorced. He acted awkward supporting me, he didn't want to make it obvious that he was supporting me."
I furrow my brows. "I recall you said you are attached to a patient." I roll my eyes, looking away.
"I want to make whatever this relationship is official so we could be on the same page. I don't want to get ahead of myself by taking this fast while you don't feel the same. It feels like I'm a teenager right now but, will you give me the pleasure of being with you?"
"Yes." I agree, smiling as he hugs me.
Writer's point of view.
A car pulls up in front of Adama's house which appears to be Qahhar's car. Adama nervously takes off her seatbelt, taking her bag.
"Good night then." She says weakly. "Good night, see you tomorrow."
She attempts to open the door when Qahhar held her hand. He kissed it gently then used his thumb to caress her hand, a smile plastered on his face.
"Since I won't get a kiss from you anytime from now." Adama nods before opening the door. "Yup."
"Are you sure you don't want me to greet your mother or walk you to the door?"
"No, I don't feel like dying. Thank you though. Bye." Adama closes the door.
Qahhar hesitantly drives away after contemplating.
