xiv. the summer

Harry was having his normal summer of cooking, cleaning and getting hit by Dudley, so nothing unusual. He was doing everything as normal, writing back and forth with Draco, Ron and Hermione and occasionally Pansy and Blaise. In the night, he stayed up doing his homework and finished as much as he could, until one night, someone knocked on his door and said "Harry, can I come in?" He knew that voice belonged to Dudley and found it peculiar that he knocked, so he picked up his wand and opened the door. It was actually Dudley and so he asked "what do you want, Dudley? It's one in the morning"Dudley looked down and said "I wanted to talk to you, Harry." Harry was surprised by Dudley's sudden change in attitude, but he let him in."So, what's up?" Dudley looked at him and said "listen, I know we haven't been all buddy-buddy, but there's something I've been wanting to tell you recently, because for a weird reason, you're the only nice person I trust." Harry's eyes widened and he said "I won't tell anyone, so shoot" Dudley looked at him nervously and said "I may be gay, but I don't know" Harry placed his hand on Dudley's shoulder and said"that's great Big D, but why are you so unsure?" Dudley looked at him and said "it's just that I've been looking and guys and girls and I feel like I'm attracted to both, because I've been checking out boys too."

Harry chuckled at this and said "that doesn't mean you're gay, it means you're bi" he saw Dudley's face of confusion and said "it means that you're attracted to girls and guys "Dudley breathed a sigh of relief that Harry understood and said "how do you know?" Harry decided that he would do the secret for secret thing and told him casually "because I'm bi too." Harry was shocked "really?! Harry that's amazing, and in sorry that I've been so mean to you I really am" Harry then remembered that Dudley was still on his God-awful diet from last year and said "wait here," he rushed under his bed and brought out his candy collection and gave some to Dudley and they managed to have a really deep conversation till 3oclock. Dudley went back and said "we should have these conversations every night, Harry. You're not as bad as I thought you were." Harry smiled and said "come anytime you want to"

The next morning, Harry went down and smiled at Dudley, who returned his smile and then Harry went to make his breakfast. At this point, when Dudley finishes, his scraps are given to Harry but today, Dudley ate half of his food and said "I'm done, Harry you can have the rest" Harry shot him a grateful smile and ate the rest. He went up and met Dudley and said "you didn't have to do that y'know?" Dudley smiled and said "I know, it's just that, I feel bad when you don't get anything to eat." Harry smiled at him and then went about his normal routine. In the evening, he had to cast a Patronus to ward off the Dementors and Dudley had no option but to blame it on him. After they left, Harry quickly wrote a note to Draco, Hermione and Ron in Morse Code which read: Dementors in Little Whinging. I'll tell you everything when we meet. With that, he went to sleep and his normal routine continued the next day, with his long conversations with Dudley and his extra breakfast.
