The moons that followed were slow and the snow wasn't slowing at all. Grief was settling in all the dragons as well as Russet Feather. She just stayed by Wind Racer's grave and constantly were placing more flowers over it. She wouldn't leave the grave although she knew that he wasn't there. Stormchaser had seen him join his sister in Starbound but Russet Feather wouldn't listen to her dismay.
However now Stormchaser had her own news. She wanted to tell Russet Feather so she pushed toward the she-wolf and heard her murmuring what seemed to be a prayer. She didn't want to interrupt her but after a few heartbeats Stormchaser didn't see an end in sight.
"Er Russet Feather," broke in Stormchaser in a whisper. "Could I show you something?"
Russet Feather lifted her head. "It's a free island. I suppose you can do whatever you want."
That wasn't exactly the response that Stormchaser was looking for. However she didn't say no so that was good enough. Stormchaser strode forward with Russet Feather following. She popped her head into her den and saw Heavystep and Skypacer speaking quietly.
"Could you two come here," asked Stormchaser hopefully as she twitched an ear.
Skypacer nodded and rose to her shaky paws. Heavystep followed his sister and they trailed out of the den. "Is this important," asked Skypacer as if she could sense it. "If it is then I can get Darkflight and Thunderheart."
Stormchaser smiled. "Yes please."
Skypacer turned and bolted toward the dense forest. It wasn't long before she came back with Thunderheart and Darkflight. Darkflight darted to Stormchaser's side. "Are you alright? Skypacer said it was important."
Stormchaser raised a wing. "Yes it is really important but I'm fine. Follow me." She strode into the forest a bit before she stopped at a medium sized den. She pushed in and motioned for Thunderheart to come first. He bounded to her side and Stormchaser raised a wing and covered his eyes.
"What are you doing," asked Thunderheart as he turned his head but Stormchaser kept the wing firm on her mate's eyes.
"You'll see but only when I say so," teased Stormchaser warmly as she took a few steps forward, making sure that she led Thunderheart beside her. The rest of the group followed right behind but she wanted Thunderheart to be the first one to see her surprise. It would change their lives!
Once they were close enough Stormchaser removed her wing from Thunderheart's eyes. Thunderheart blinked open his eyes and gasped in shock. In front of him were three large Night Fury eggs. They gleamed in the sunlight and Thunderheart could just imagine little Night Furies running around between his paws. His heart nearly burst in affection.
"Let us see," begged Darkflight as he nearly pushed Thunderheart out of the way. He let out a breath in shock but he couldn't doubt how proud he was. He was going to be an uncle!
Skypacer and Heavystep were next when they saw the eggs the two squirmed with pleasure. "Congratulations you two," chuckled Skypacer.
Heavystep stretched out a boney paw and hit Thunderheart's shoulder affectionately. "Welcome to parenthood! I hope the little ones don't bring you two through the ringer."
Skypacer rolled her eyes and growled. "Stop that Heavystep. This is a moment to celebrate, not fear," she pointed out as she bobbed the Boneknapper's nose with one of her claws.
Russet Feather stood in shock and didn't say anythings. Tears showed in her eyes and Stormchaser could almost bet she was thinking about Wind Racer. After a while she finally composed herself. "Congratulations," she rasped."I know you two will be great parents."
It was flat but that didn't matter to Stormchaser. Nothing could take this moment away from Stormchaser. She couldn't wait until they were hatched and then her real journey as a mother would begin.
"I can't believe it," murmured Thunderheart as he pressed his head against his mate's shoulder and rumbled in affection. "I'm so excited Stormchaser!"
"I'm glad," chuckled Stormchaser although inside she was very nervous, and excited. She knew that her life was going to change as soon as they were hatched.
"I wonder if I'll be a good father," wondered Thunderheart as he sulked a bit, his tail twitching.
"I'm sure you will," assured Heavystep as he licked his teeth. "You'll be nervous at first but I'm sure you'll fit right in."
"No parent is perfect," reminded Russet Feather as she picked up a more playful tone. "You'll make it work though I'm sure. Besides we're all going to be here to help you." She turned her head and looked at Darkflight. "Right Darkflight?"
Darkflight frowned a bit and he desperately wanted to argue it but he couldn't. Not when his sister was so pleased and excited. He may not like Thunderheart because he had stolen Stormchaser's heart. However now he was going to be the best uncle he could be. "Of course! We'll do the best that we can."
Stormchaser smiled in thankfulness and looked down at the three eggs before she stretched out a claw and gingerly stroked one of the eggs. "Don't worry little ones. Your mother is here and I promise that no matter what happens I'll always be with you."
